The success RJJ had against Lebedev were because of the typical "RJJ moves", which he has still left in his repetoire... The same moves he humiliated Toney with when they were both in their primes, only not as fast and a lot stiffer. There's also the tiny little problem with it that Jones lost, and (like guys here love to say) brutal KO... if there hadn't been a KO he would have lost on the cards. Toney has a totally different way of fighting as Jones and is a lot easier to hit also. He has better adjustment and way better punch resistance, but he also needs it right now. He didn't even have the power to stop one of the worst HW challengers ever, totally shot and glass jawed Damon "Herbie's *****" Reed. Both Toney and Jones would have toyed with Lebedev in their primes, but both are shot to **** right now. Top ATG's, sad they are still fighting. Lebedev by UD or late T/KO.
Lebedev basically ate himself up to CW. He is pretty small for the weight class. I used to be on the hype train, but he disappointed me against Huck and Jones. A guy like Tarver would definitely beat him, not so sure about Toney since he hasn't looked good in about five years.
Lebedev pulling a Calzaghe. :-( The version Toney that beat Jirov would kick Lebedev's ass. Not so sure about 2011 Toney.
Are you drunk? You really believe Lebedev has the power to even stun Toney? How the hell would Lebedev KO Toney?
Yes I think he does. Lebedev is a puncher and Toney does have a chin made of cast iron, but he's totally shot right now. Even Mercer got KO'd eventually, and later even within 19 seconds in a K1 fight. If Ali had continued boxing, he would eventually have landed on the canvas too. You cant stop the process of aging. I expect him to last, but I won't be surprised at all if he lands face first a la Roy.
And what's with this weird believe in these old, shot ATG's like Holyfield and Toney anyway? If they're fighting top ranked opponents that are somewhat limited they suddenly are expected to win? :blood I believe old man Hopkins opened a whole new can of worms with his victory over Pascal.
Toney is easier to hit than the current version of RJJ? You gotta be kidding or you have yet to see a Toney fight. Toney is a defensive master, truly one of a kind in that regard, plus he has an iron chin that did hold up against monster punchers like Sam Peter. Little Lebedev will have absolutely no chance to ko Toney... Instead expect Lebedev to be koed in the late rounds by Toney due to James' counterpunching abilities.
Lebedev's managers issued official statements that Toney has an offer on the table. This seems to be for real now. James has a solid chin, he was hit flush by hard punchers like Rahman, Peter, Holyfield.
Why are people here trying to tell who Toney WAS? I know who Toney WAS, I've seen most of his fights, it's about who he IS now. You know how long ago the Peter fights were ago? You don't expect Oscar to be the same guy from that period if he didn't stop boxing do you? And he's even a couple of years younger as James. You should read the post I made about how guys with incredible chins ended up KO'd because they went on too long. And like I said, I don't expect him to be T/KO'd but it's very possible because history will eventually catch up with you!
Toney still is defensive master who is way harder to hit than current Roy Jones Jr. Lebedevs will have hard time landing while Toney will pick him apart. Just wait and see
