no body in the world will recognise rogan as a world champion, not even his own mother. its just a cynical money making ploy. i'm sure that boxing fans in belfast will not stand for it and will hopefully vote with their feet.

Rogans trying to sell a fight. anyone who falls into the trap of saying 'world title' this and that, or conversly, those who mock this 'world title' fight and saying anyone who go to it are mugs, are as stupid as each other.

I know what you're saying, but at least at that point there was a genuine belief among most fans that Hatton was en route to bigger things and bigger titles, and he was in genuine negotiation at various times with genuine world-ranked fighters. Whereas Rogan is presenting this as some sort of pinnacle of Irish boxing. So while I get where you're coming from, it's really not quite the same.

 

fans such as ourselves, sure. Informed boxing fans with a world perspective on the sport. The other 17,500 who went because a man city season ticket holder who loved a pint and was a 'world champion', im not so sure.

Rubbish. It took Hatton about 5 years to move on to bigger things. It's more or less exactly the same. Doesn't make it right and of course this is one of the worst 'title' fights yet but it's exactly as corrupt and ridiculous as many before it and many since.

In all seriousness though, if Rogan keeps at the PR and sells a world title fight to a lot of casuals that dont follow the sport and then this opponent falls over at the 1st sign of danger, they will tear that place apart.


Or else just not go....then Rogan will be presented with a bill from the owners, people who fill that place every week with Lady Gaga and the like, and will want to be financially rewarded for holding the date, and he will be cleaning dishes in the VIP section until hes about 70

 

I was not disputing that it took Hatton a few years to move on to the bigger fights, but I stand by my post.

Guess we'll have to agree to disagree on the parallels between this Rogan situation and Hatton's WBU time!

 

Just because he moved on after that doesn't make it any better that Hatton milked 16 'world' title fights before finally stepping up. In fact it's probably worse because there's no way Rogan will do it for that long. And who's to say that Rogan won't one day get a fight against one of the more recognised but also corrupt 'champions'?

 

There was a genuine sense at the time that Hatton was being avoided by some of the names, guys like Sharma Mitchell were in negotiation then went another route, Hatton would have stepped up sooner had the ****** and opponent issues not dogged him. He felt that he was the number one in the world, he did go on to become the consensus number one at the weight, fighters make titles and although I did not consider Hatton a world champion when he held the WBU title, he had career momentum behind him so was a face on the world scene. Rogan is never going to beat the top guys in the division, Rogan himself knows that, so him parading the WBU belt as a legitimate world title and saying that the Klitschkos don't control all the belts until they face him for the WBU belt is farcical. Whatever the merits and demerits of the middle phase of Hatton's career, I was simply saying that this situation, and the reasons for the fighters fighting for the WBU belt, are entirely different.

But we are hijacking the thread with a side issue, it was a point that I stand by but no wider interest in redebating Hatton, so let's just agree to disagree. I see where you're coming from, I just don't agree, but I think we can agree that Rogan is spouting drivel, which is really the main point here.
