Still he could pick off the punch being thrown. I just envision him being overwhelmed as combo's come in.
How do you see Lennox throwing combinations when Johnson is able to hold his arms on the inside, because of the different gloves and rules. Every punch Lennox throws will be done with JOhnson holding and defending himself, meaning Lennox will tire twice as fast as normal. And he is not going to be able to throw combinations like he normally did. And he wont be used to trying to offset this type of attack. by the 4th or 5th round, Lennox ' arms are going to feel like lead. And the KO Punch will become less and less likely. And with Johnson's safety first approach it is almost certain that Lennox will not score the early KO. I think that Johnson's Clinching and defence greatly neutralises combination punching not totally unlike Ruiz's clinch and punch style got him results against better combination fighters. And Johnson is better than Ruiz in every single respect. Obviously, the flipside is that Lennox is a challenge that is bigger than anything Johnson faced, although it is worth noting that Johnson beat people who were close to lewis than Lewis did to JOhnson.
With no air travel in those days [the beginning of the 20th century , ] time zones were not applicable . How would the food and water ,be different from what he would have eaten and drunk in California,Choynski's home state? Choynski had 2 .5 months to get to Galveston from Denver Colorado ,where he had his previous fight. You think Johnson had an advantage? How about Johnson koing Klondike in Memphis then 18 days later drawing with Scanlon in Galveston? How about Jeffries defending his title in California ,[Jeffries home state,] six out of the ten times he did so? How about Johnson, as champion ,fighting not only all over the States .but in Cuba ,Argentina,France x2, and taking on the best Aussie boxers ,defeating them in their own country , and then the winning title in Australia? Oh,and by the way Choynski may not have been in his prime but ,he was hardly ancient at 32. You do talk some utter ****.
Your opinion of Marvin Hart's chances against modern fighters is based on all the footage of him you have perused I suppose? We have established that Tracy Callis and Monte Cox's opinions ,are ridiculous, according to you. How about those of Archie Moore and Eddie Futch? Are they ridiculous too? And ,are they self -ordained scholars? Because I was under the impression they had more than a passing experience with the Noble Art. Obviously not in your class but then ",who the **** is"?
Johnson had 24 fights before the Choynski fight, several of which were no more than local tough man contests.Choynski had 64 fights under his belt when he fought Johnson.

Can you think of one French, or Cuban challenger who merited one? Johnson beat the two best Aussies, in Australia, Felix and Lang ,before he won the title . Felix by ko in 1rd, in his home town of Sydney,[ defending his the coloured title ]. Lang by stoppage in 9rds, in his home town of Melbourne. How about you address these questions ? What would be the difference in the food in Galveston to say , California ,Choynski's home state? What would be the difference in the water in Galveston ,to California? Who do you think the majority of the audience would be, black ,or white? Who do you think that same majority would be rooting for? Time zones do not apply here as I have explained, numb nuts. After pictures were taken of Choynski and Johnson ,locked up together ,are you aware they were then segregated in separate cell blocks ,one for blacks one for whites? Now go over your post and try and make some grammatical sense of it.
To be honest you are not saying anything at all ,you are just regurgitating the same old **** you post at least once a week. I don't know how many people have pulled you up on your assertion that the Smith sparring match was a tko win for Smith ? It must be at least 5 .Smith himself disagreed with you. Tell me more about Johnson's MANGER?
The opinions I quoted were those of Callis, and Cox,not mine ,I posted them for the interest of anyone who cared to read them.
Thought provoking but we cannot prove or disprove it. Ruiz seemed to do rather well with his clinching style ,and I would rate him several leagues below Johnson.
after watching that moran fight. i dont know why this thread was even made. all i could was two crude fighters with hands low grabbing each othher, one thing he wouldnt wanna do is grab lewis. not only because lewis is much stronger but he had a crazy uppercut inside that would probably send johnson to heaven. he might of been a great fighter back then but against a prime lewis he wouldnt last 4 rounds. no matter how tough he was.
Ofcourse we can't prove anything, in fantasy fights you simply cannot. Well ruiz's success is questionable, who was his best victory? Holyfield, a man similar in size. Golota made him look silly as did tua. His best victory is probably a prime rahman and his style proved pretty successful in that fight, however it proved **** against jones and toney. Using ruiz as a yardstick is dangerous because he was stylistically exploited on a few occasions. Foreman used a similar parry style defence but his over all style was clearly very different. Johnson is unique and picturing his style against bigger opposition is difficult.
This content is protected This content is protected PS: Keep quoting the CBZ. They say Jack Johnson vs. Jim Johnson was This content is protected , and if this is the case Jack got away with a quit job, somehow earned a draw and kept his title. Of course Johnson quit in fights both before and after his fiasco title bout in France, but that is another story Care to learn which fights?
How many fights of Johnson did Moore and Futch witness? They are basing their opinions on hearsay and the same film we all have seen. This is the same Classicist process we have witnessed time and again from otherwise brilliant minds. They naturally admire their instructors, whose opinions they take as gold but which are hued by a subjectivity towards their own era. Thus, this retrograde opinion gets carried to a new generation and in the process grows to a legend completely disproportionate to the actual events which began it. I like Cox but think he suffers from buying wholesale into this demagod worship.
