just watching the dvd on the fight anyone think if the referee was more lenient on hatton fighting inside, the fight would have been any different ??
No! The reason why Cortez kept breaking them up, was because whenever they would be on the inside, Floyd was actually out-Rickying Ricky. He was spoiling on the inside to the point where Ricky didn't know what to do, and the fight would have been unpleasant to watch if it carried on.
I noticed early on the ref was getting between them before they were even holding !! lol I didnt understand how he allowed stuff in the Hatton v Castillo fight that he wasnt allowing against Flloyd However, as the fight went on it was clear that Floyd was stronger than Hatton on the inside and the outside.
You no what, I agree with this. Mayweather beat Hatton at his own game in that 1. And I'm a huge Hatton fan. I would have preferred the ref to let them go a little longer mind
wouldnt of mattered if the ref let hatton try to rough him up on the inside. mayweather was leagues above him and would have just adjusted.
yes in the fact that i think it would have been a bit more competitive and probably ended in a UD win for Floyd, not a KO... Cortez did a horrible job that night, was completely set on disrupting and ruinning Hatton...
Outcome would have been the same, but the fight would have been better, but Hatton hugely underestimated Mayweather on the inside. Cortez was an embaressment that night and a few nights since.
There's also the fact that Cortez reversed his style of Officiating for his next fight (Calzaghe - Hopkins) Hatton went into that fight thinking he was the stronger of the two, and he wasn't. He also went into it thinking that he could walk through whatever Floyd threw, he couldn't. If Cortez allowed Hatton to maul Floyd then we'd of seen a slightly closer fight. (Unless that muppet decided to take more points away for punches that landed on the ropes.)
I watched the Hatton vs Mayweather dvd last saturday and the fight was closer than people give Hatton credit for the first 7 rounds. Mayweather wasn't able to out fight Hatton on the inside till Hatton started to tire Mayweather should have had at least a point deducted though for continued use of his elbows and forearms into Hattons face. Joe Cortez was a disgrace though as joe bulla has mentioned at times Cortez was splitting them up before they were even in a clinch. Also he took a point off Hatton for hitting Mayweather in the back of the head (eventhough it did'nt land) when Mayweather did exactly the same thing I think in the 2nd round and his punch did land but all cortez did was split them up not even a warning. The unfortunate thing for Hatton was that although he got his ass handed to him in the 8th and 9th round if I remember he was doing pretty good in the 10th and seemed to be getting a 2nd wind before that great counter left hook. Taking all this into account do I think hatton would have beat Mayweather at 147 with a competant ref in Vegas ? No I don't think so, he may have been able to survive to a ud loss though. At 140 if the fight was in the Uk to be honest I could see a prime Hatton winning a close decision over Mayweather.
