Lampley can keep his passion. He comes off as a drama queen to me. I'd rather listen to Kellerman than him anyday...And Larry sucks at interviews. Having said that, he can say some pretty funny stuff too: see the Klit/Haye fight
Over all I like him. He knows the sport of boxing. I liked him on Around The Horn. I like the new guy too. When Michael Vick was going through the dog fighting trail. He had a comentary on it that shaped my percpective on the issue. Basicaly what Vick did was wrong, but as a meat eater it is also hypicritacal to be outraged by it. I think he dose a very good job on HBO, but I grew up with Larry Merchant's vodka induced commantary.
I think lampley is pretty good, He can have great lines like in round 12 of morales vs pac 1 when he really got it right but he can also **** up badly like with his bang bang commentary.
I'll go further. What Vick did was "wrong" is completely subjective. Humans created the pitbull. The pitbull was bread to fight. Purebread pitbulls of great bloodlines (Chinaman,Colby, etc) have pure heart. Their tails wag through the fights; even when losing. I have had pitbulls. I would NEVER roll my dogs. But I understand that they fight. The pitbull, even when injured will NOT bite a human back despite almost ANY specie on the planet would due to "defensive aggression." That was bread out of the pitbulls who displayed that so that the handlers could take care of them. A better "sport" would be the weight pull etc for pitbulls and they can still have that "Killer instinct" displayed and be fine. So while weight pulling is "my opinion" on what is "right" I can't say that Vick was "wrong" given that pitbulls were bread to fight. They are happy to do so and while many humans cry about it...they aren't....
I like Kellerman, he's doing a great job! But that Larry Merchant is getting on my nerves the last few years!! Time for him to hang 'm!!
do you remember him during the margarito/pac fight? you'd thought garcia must be hiding an uzi in tony's trunks. i know it makes for good tv but EVEN MY WIFE said lampley was being ridiculous. if my wife says someone is dramatic, they might as well be nancy grace
He has grown on me. Very passionate about boxing. Seems to always try and improve. Plus he adds some much needed young blood to that HBO line up
Kellerman is a good and knowledgeable commentator, learn to love him, cos he is the future of HBO commentating, on age alone, he will outlast the rest of the team. Boy gothimself some mad commentating skills... word. etc
A LOT. too much to detail here. see if you can find it on youtube. i can't. work computer...was basically convinced that margarito was cheating somehow when roach was clearly bullshitting because garcia had dared question the way manny's hands had been wrapped
I don't mind him. It's Jim Lampley who seems suspect, he reminds me of an overly excited kid who just came to watch the fight.
