Wrong. Quite the opposite. You see, most of us here have seen Floyd for over a decade. It's the bandwagoners who act as if his resume past 135 is worth a damn, the newbies and casuals who decided to join a forum and trump the one guy they watch. past 135, it's average at best.

Wow...Sad. 130-135lbs is a Top-level Resume. Past 135lbs it's a Very Solid resume. Could it have been better, sure..but other things came into to play. But as usual, everyone wants to blame the guy They don't like!!!

Floyd's best win at WW is a guy Cotto already beat. A younger, better version too. :hey

 

Why fight him then? Why did Floyd came out off retirement just to fight JMM.

 

Zero wins vs Tszu and Cotto - both destroyed the best of his resume after Castillo.
Failed in nearly a decade of work to fight the best at 140 and 147 and it never stops as Manny will be avoided.
Strictly a "lifestyle" fighter who is only relevant undefeated so pure boxing fans who are not Floyd fans are shutout as the history books are not sacred to this fighter.

 

FMJ does not have the greatest resume at all. A really good fighter who was so afraid to challenge the best. Reminds me of RJJ in some ways but RJJ was much better than him.

 

Not saying that. this is my point. Margarito desperately wanted a fight with Floyd. But the opportunity came for FMJ to fight Oscar. Now what fool (pun intended) would ditch a chances to fight a Superstar (in & out of the ring) like Oscar just to fight a fighter who brings nothing to the table but a reputation. Then after that and another giant payday came with hatton. You can't shake your head at these fights. Nor can you blame FMJ that the talent at 140lbs was shitty at the time he was there. This is why i will stand by statement of saying it's a solid resume.

 

I can't be arsed to take this serious if you don't even know the proper timeline. The Margarito fight was proposed when Floyd had just entered WW. Before he fought Judah. Well before the DLH fight.

The names alone look impressive, but when you look closer it loses a lot of its shine. To be fair, it's easy to pick holes in nearly any record -- people even criticise Leonard on his best wins, stating that he fought Hagler so late in their careers, or how Duran apparently had 'cramps' in the rematch, or how Hearns over trained or came in at an unsuitable weight, or whatever.

That being said, I think you make an accurate assessment about Floyd's record. When he moved up in weight he seems to have lost the sort of ambition that led him to make matches against Corrales and Castillo...now he goes for low risk matches. The biggest risk he's taken in recent years was probably the Hoya fight back in 2007 (Floyd moving up in weight, fighting the bigger man, having to agree to a smaller ring, etc), and even there, Hoya wasn't even close to his prime days.

 

That's not how I recall it. From I remember, Arum tried to set this fight up late '06 after the Baldomir fight. But I could be wrong...i did so much meth in late '06, my memory is kind of fuzzy from '06 and '07.

 

Arum tried for Floyd vs. Margarito before Floyd even fought Judah. But it doesn't matter I guess. The past has passed.

You mentioning the likes of Gatti and Chavez and questioning about Cotto, Margo and Khan makes no sense at all.
