Just looked back at his fights. Not impressed. Only very good performance is his first win against Taylor and had two decent wins against Rosario and Camacho. If he wasn't mexican and didn't have the backing, due to the lack of good atheletes coming out of mexico, of the whole country he'd be looked back as ordinary.

Also the guy was a sore loser, lost to Randell, didn't give him credit, lost to Tszyu, didn't give him credit. Just nothing special in chavez other than his following. Had a career that mirrors his son, fought a bunch of mexican nobodies and than beat one good fighter Taylor.:-( Tszyu in his prime would've knocked this mutt out.

Can mods just close this idiot thread?

I'm not even a big Chavez fan but "stunk?"

Obvious troll thread. ESB should ban people for crap like this. What a waste of space.

I'm sure after performing round after round of elite technical pressure fighting, you'd stink a bit too. Ass.

    He is. Silly statement.

Beat lots of solid fighters- Roger Mayweather, Rocky Lockridge, Meldrick Taylor, Greg Haughen, Hector Camacho....

Look how many fights he had before he ever even lost.

Again I'm not even the biggest Chavez fan but his place in history is safe.

    :deal Pretty much.

He lost a couple of fights before he actually lost his "0". Also, many of his opponents were hand picked over much better available opposition. He was damn good and brought a crowd, but not great enough to justify the complete adoration of the boxing public.

  shut the **** up. Seriously. Chavez had a monster chin, clubbing power, great inside game and had very underrated defense and was the best fighter at cutting off the ring in recent history. If you don't appreciate him then you're just a ******.

You can support a guy like Wladimir Klit****, but now JCC:patsch

He stunk, Morales, Barrera and definitely JMM are better.

"Beat lots of solid fighters- Roger Mayweather, Rocky Lockridge, Meldrick Taylor, Greg Haughen, Hector Camacho...."

Lol. That is so embarrassing. Greg Haughen, Lockridge, Mayweather? Average at best.

He got beat by Whitaker, DLH, embarrassed by DeLaHoya who made him quit. Also lost to Willy Wise, even post his prime this was shameful. Than got his "revenge" wins against Wise and Randell, a fight he lost but got a dubious decision after he intentionally headbutted Randell. This guy also low-blowed, and used other tactics to get out of fights. He was a good fighter but nothing special. If mexicans had sports stars they wouldn't latch onto one guy who has success. Look at how the mexicans latch onto Chicarito, because he is one of the few soccer players to make it in europe. Chavez's popularity was cultural and not based on his ability so much.

Yep, he couldn't even compare to average nobodies like Barerra, Morles or Marquez....:patsch
