Part I of what should could lead on hopefully to some other threads. PK did a similar thread about a year back but this one allows you to go for 3 choices plus also new posters get the chance to choose. What are your Top 3 Greatest Boxing Rivalries. I'm not talking greatest fights but the best rivalries. I've gone for these 3... Ali vs Frazier Clearly a intense rivalry, I personally lost respect for Ali as a child when hearing the things he said to Joe. Joe still years after the bout resented and never forgave Ali. I'm unsure if that's changed but a truly epic rivalry. This content is protected Puerto Rico vs Mexico (Doesn't have to be inside the ring ) Just love the fights, the crowd scene's with flag's aplenty and emotions high. The Puerto Rican style vs the Mexican heart and determination. The Mexican's i'd presume hold the more wins over there arch rivals in World title fights although not 100% on that. This content is protected Benn vs Eubank To Black British Londoners from working class backgrounds. One embraced his working class lifestyle and used it to his advantage with sheer aggression. The other gave the impression he was from a Silver Spoon Society yet grew up in the rough area of Loughborough Junction. Eubank and Benn may have taken different paths in there careers but they was very similar men with a similar ambition. In two battles they shed blood, sweat and tears and still never lost there competitive edge. This content is protected Why are they your Top 3? :good
Yeah, Ali Vs Frazier is a given. The Fabulous Four: 'Nuff said. I'd chuck Benitez into the mix as well. An awe inspiring talent pool in one of boxings greatest eras. You could easily swap this for 'The Murderers Row' and my bollocks would still fall off, this is just more easily accessible and requires less explanation Alfonso Zamora Vs Carlos Zarate: This had it all. Only decision win between them with about 70-odd K.Os, former stablemates, both holding half of the Bantamweight title (but the fight actually contested over the limit funnily enough) both at their very best, both undefeated, both brought Mexican spirit and both are arguably top ten ATG punchers. Plus, they ended up having a half-decent fight ;-)
Chacon/Limon The pair of them gave us some brutal wars. Vazquez/Marquez Same as above Jones/Tarver Tarver put everything he had into finding a way to beat Roy Jones.
Wow! Three GREAT shouts!!! This as well. :good Really considered this, but couldn't choose between this or Duran-Leonard, then realised I could bypass that choice and cheat ;-) I really should've said Saddler-Pep atsch
Bowe-Holyfield Griffith-Paret Paterson-Johansson Just to give three that haven't been mentioned. EDIT:Ross-McLarnin too.
