I think I should probably elaborate a bit on my choices.

Bobby Chacon and Rafael Limon were fierce rivals both in and out of the ring. They shared age old Mexican/Chicano rivalry, a heated mutual dislike between Mexican's and Mexican American's which was born many years before Chacon and Limon ever met in the ring. Inside the squared circle, they fought firecely, giving boxing fans 4 hotly contested wars. The passion, drama and sheer action of their fights will always be remember (particularly their third bout, Ring fight of the year). Both seemed to chuck everything they had into beating the other, and it reached boiling point in their third encounter, which is regarded as one of the most intense wars of it's time.

Israel Vazquez and Rafael Marquez fought 4 times aswell. 2 of those fights are universally regarded as modern classics. These 2 fighters had nothing but respect for each other inside and outside the ring, both humble Mexican fighters who gave their all whenever required to. They gave boxing fans some of the gutsiest performances, the heartiest battles and one of the most competitive in-ring rivalries ever. They engaged in savage wars, where both sustained career threatening punishment, and where the will of each was tested to the very limit. In this rivarly, despite the damage sustained by both in the beating they took and the tribulations they faces, both came out looking like true ring warriors, with a mutual respect amongs all fans regardless of agenda.

Antonio Tarver seemed to focus everything he had, through his rise up the Light Heavyweight rankings, his shortcomings in the form of a loss to Eric Harding, and the re-cuperaction from that loss, into finding a way to beat Roy Jones Jr. Eventually, he did, knocking 'Superman' out in 2 rounds in their second fight. The fact that one man (who apparently studied Jones to a scary degree) would put so much into beating another man, just shows how intense the rivalry was, at least on one end. It's sort of a Hagler/Leonard-esque rivalry IMO, where one guy passionately hated the other, and whilst the 'other' did not show it outside the ring, they fought just as intensely as their foe when it came down to it.

 

I wish I could say Corrales-Castillo, but their second fight was a bit of a sham.

Pacquiao-Marquez was a good one.

Sugar ray robinson-Jake Lamotta.

Ruddock tyson is a bit of an unknown rivalry, but there was real bad blood between the two and they fought two really good fights, particularly their second one.

Harry Greb-Gene tunney deserves a mention.

 

Yeah, that's a good one. Watched their second fight today, incidentally.

 

Chacon-Limon is a great call.

 

Mike showed his heart and chin in the second one, walked through some terrific bombs by Ruddock. the pre fight was funny **** to.

 

Ruddock was a funny guy, I haven't seen the pre-fight though, unfortunately.

I thought Mills Lane had a shocker in that fight. Some woeful point deductions on both ends :-(
