I've long criticised rosenthal. He's a complete hack. But fischer is a damn good writer and a model of journalistic integrity. Started house of boxing and max boxing. Anyone with a problem with him presumably doesn't enjoy good boxing writing.
im a fan of doug his gym diarys are great pieces of boxing writing but he loses his head if someone critizises gbp or the ring in his mailbags
This. Rosenthal, Satterfield and the like do w@rrant criticism, but I've always found it difficult to comprehend what problem people have with Fischer, I think he's excellent, and can't see how anyone could argue the converse, it's not like he consistently pushes out incomprehensibly bad articles, very much the opposite in fact.
Please show me an example of this. You won't because you can't. His position is logical. Lots of people criticise gbp for things top rank does. There's a double standard, but he is open about flaws in both. He regularly criticises his bosses, lists rival promoters fighters as his favourites and attacks mismatches. Perhaps you should pick on Thomas hauser who is CLEARLY biased against golden boy and never picks on top rank whenever they do the exact same things.
did you read any condemnation about the money situation surrounding Khan-Paulie and the undercard fighters and GBP getting banned from operating in New York for a period of time?
The likes of Fischer and Rosenthal have a far too parochial outlook on the sport, which suits Golden Boy just fine in terms of Ring Magazine. Had a discussion with Rosenthal once and the stuff that that came out of his mouth was amazing even by brainless Yank standards - the kind of stuff you would expect to hear from the dregs of the other forum. Fischer is an american biased dip**** capable of pearls such as: "If Calzaghe didn't have an undefeated record, I don't think folks would throw around the word "great" with Joe Calzaghe. Chad Dawson is a guy that I would pick to beat Calzaghe. Glen Johnson is an even fight... Chad Dawson is the only guy I would pick right now to decisively beat Calzaghe." Doug Fischer, November 2008 If I remember rightly Bunce had a right go at Fischer over something back in the Setanta days which was quite amusing too
I don't really see the issue here, honestly. The Ring does have a few good journalists in it but I think it needs a change to become more modern. It's certainly not the end of The Ring. Far from it, hopefully.
The ring has been getting too biased for my liking for a while now. And now Doug Fischer is going to be editor, the dude doesnt even PRETEND to be impartial. I'll be spending my money on a couple of extra beers instead from now on
