If my friends here in San Jose are any indication, they'll root for Pacquiao. If they aren't fans, they at the very least respect him. Mayweather on the other hand is just a clown to them and no respect... :hat

The main reason mexicans dont care for maynever, is she is a coward, straight up. Its not in the mexican DNA to make excuse after excuse to avoid a fight.

I think its mostly because of the exposure to many of his fights. He took on all the great Mexican champions of this era and he beat them using an exciting and offensive style. Culturally Mexicans like boxers who will fight and put on a good show. Many US citizens appreciate this style as well. Pacquiao is very popular around the world, this isn't just a Mexico thing.
