    Its not a cherry pick.
its an incredibly smart business decision.

Victor Ortiz is 24 years old. Hes the WBC Welterweight champion coming off a Fight of the year. Hes a mexican who floyd will fight on mexican independence day! Ortiz won over a lot of fans after the berto fight.

lets not forget hes a strong southpaw, good prep for a potential pac fight in the future. and lets be honest, all of the above considered, hes not a serious threat to floyd. but has a decent enough chance to make the fight a credible event.

so floyd is securing an enormous payday, against a relatively safe opponent whos young strong and a wbc champion.

How can anyone blame floyd for taking Ortiz???
Apart from Pacquiao who else do you want to see floyd fight?
Berto?! just came off a loss. Bradley? that shameful ducker! Martinez?! - simply too big! Khan?! Cotto?! (pac's leftovers so to speak).

Ortiz is a good fight for floyds comeback. Stop all this cherry picking nonsense. Yes ortiz doesnt have much of a chance at winning. but then who does exactly?

No *******/*****/take the tests/ped comments please thanks

As a substitute for a Pacquiao fight that should have happened twice by now, May-Ortiz is disappointing. Especially when you consider the fact that it isn't a tune-up, and that there's a very real possibility that it won't even lead to the Pacquiao fight at all.

Everybody's definition of a cherry pick is different. You say Ortiz is not a serious threat and will net Mayweather a big payday. Many people will say that constitutes a cherry pick.

Apart from Khan and Pac I dont think there is really any one that actually would stand any sort of chance!

floyd was supposedly on vacation and just let pac take on another fight instead of sitting down and working hard on making that fight

He could've come back a month or two earlier and put pressure on Pac to take the fight, to atleast make it look like he wanted it. Instead waits till Pac-Marquez is in the final stages of negotiations and announces he's fighting Ortiz. And this after just so happening to be in Miami during Berto-Ortiz to attend that fight. A cynic would say he was there scoping out his next opponent looking to fight the winner, and must've been licking his chops at the prospect with all the flaws on display and with it having been FOTY material making it easier to promote for a great payday.

i agree. but then any fight floyd could have taken would be disappointing in comparison to pac. so why not just go for a guy that will net you a huge payday while your at it?

thats a good point. but it seems pretty clear that floyd doesnt want anything to do with pacquiao. so that considered ortiz is as good a fight as any? there really arent many alternatives. might aswel fight the guy that will get you the highest payday.

I would have to dissagree with that. Anyway, I don't really have a problem with him fighting Ortiz. It should be an entertaining fight.

Because it's not the guy who you should be facing .

It's like Spain reaching the World Cup final - where they're supposed to meet Holland - and turning around and saying "Nah, we don't need to bother with Holland. But we'll play Uruguay instead. Be happy with it."

Now if Floyd's stubborness delayed it for one fight, or maybe two, then it wouldn't be so bad. But **** me, it's coming up to 4 fights and 2 years now. And counting! Noone asked for Ortiz, so don't expect us to be content with it, Floyd. We tell you we're thirsty, and you offer us a sandwich? **** that.

I said it once before, the Floyd-Pac fight is losing it's luster fast. This fight should've happened two years ago when pac was a true wrecking ball. He didn't look 100% vs Margo or Mosley and Floyd is just waiting for Pac to look beatable in the ring, then he will strike.

He looks beatable now, and always has.

I think Pac looked his best in the Margarito fight. But I agree, any fight that happens in the future now, will be a diluted version of what it could have been back in November 2010 - where Mayweather and Pacquiao both were coming off dominant wins over Mosley and Clottey.

The argument could easily be made that Pac is the one who does not want this fight.
