Duran was an incredible natural fighter. I think the losses to Laing and Lawlor have to hurt his resume a little. His inconsistancy was probably the most incredible thing about him.

H2H and resume wise he sits favourably with me against almost any other fighter of any era. I think he'd beat sweet P, and you can make a case for him beating the likes of Armstrong, Chavez, etc too.

I probably put him ahead of almost any other fighter. After Robinson, post Robinson. Maybe Ali trumps him based on his greater selection of wins but Durans longevity and the impressive nature of his post prime victories might just see him edge it.

Put it this way Robinson-Duran at Welterweight over 15 rounds? I'd struggle to pick a winner and thats not even the great mans weight.

On a side note if anyone wants to meet the guy- get in touch. We've got him coming to our gym/hotel on the 28th September and I can promise you that if any of you guys come you won't have a better chance of meeting him then that night. £45

Possibly. But I would say Palomino was better when Duran faced him than Cuevas was.

It's a great win because of all the factors. And because of the attributes Duran displayed in that fight. A close, ultra-competitive fight, but a past his best former lightweight taking on a big, dangerous Middleweight and doing that. Again, Barkley isn't an ATG, but that is a great win.

Definitely, he's in mine :good He, Ross and Canzoneri should never be more than a few places away from each other.

I think Robinson beats him at 147. I think Robinson beats pretty much everyone at 147 though.....;O)

Robbo would do a Hearns job on Duran, no doubt in my mind. If Duran engaged him, Ray would engage right back and with his firepower Duran is going dowwwwwwwwwwwn.

    whitaker deals with him.

dejesus soundly done it first time.

and most of the class slick boxers handled duran.

leonard (2 & 3), hearns :dead, benitez, hagler.

his opposition got tougher late 70's onwards.

ali did better in that 2nd phase than duran did.

least he had a title reign.

    duran had no title reigns.

ali was a champion for 4 yrs.

    duran for 4 minutes. :yep

Obviously I do. Also, I've seen Canzoneri around this bracket loads of times.

Why wouldn't you rank him this high? :huh His ring record is absolutely bonkers and his ability is there for all to see.

Anyone who ranks him outside the top 20 needs to have a serious look at themselves, this man had it all, and beat a lot of great fighters. Seriously, I can't believe Canzoneri is the one you picked out.

At 160 though when Robinson was giving weight away. I can't see Duran doing the same mate.

This is like the Leonard one.....

Benitez was faded, couldn't punch anyway

He lost to a lightweight in Duran

Hearns was chinny, weight drained, bull**** stoppage

    He retired to avoid Hagler

    Hagler beat him anyway

    :hey

You can pick at anyone's slate if you want.....

Yeah, Hearns really slickly outboxed him.
Duran actully outboxed Hagler for part of that fight. At middleweight:patsch
Over the championship distance Duran proved he was the better man than DeJesus. Twice.
His opposition was tough throughout his career. ATGs throughout.
Vilomar Fernandez, who soundly outboxed Arguello, didn't outbox him.
Saoul Mamby, a highly capable pure boxer, didn't outbox him.
Ken Buchanan, a very stylish boxer and unorthodox to go with it, didn't outbox him.
Ernesto Marcel, a very slick ATG Featherweight, and an immensely rounded fighter, didn't outbox him.

Duran was the no.1 135lber for about six years. No title reign? :huh

    Seriously, your logic is skewed.

Mclarnin shared fights with Canzoneri, lost 2 out of 3 to Ross. They were probably his biggest fights, against two career lightweights, at least one of whom was past his prime. Granted the Mandell, Corbett, Villa and Ambers ( another lightweight if I remember right ) wins are good but not top 20 in my opinion. Billy Petrolle and Broillard werent top tier fighters but they were true welterweights and managed to beat Mclarnin. Everyones got a different opinion though

HH1 isn't 'picking at his slate' he's making **** up and obviously doesn't know enough about Durans opposition.

I don't remember seeing it mate, I'm no fan of Leonard (personality wise) but I daren't post that on here and actually mean it.

I'll gladly pile into pretty much anyone who I don't like but the line has to be drawn somewhere!!

At least Leonard had a valid reason to ''retire'', as opposed to.... I'll leave it ;)
