    All of the defensive greats, (pep, el radar, locche & pea) I think Pernell was the most complete fighter & the best offensively.

    Who ever said in this thread he had no power is clueless.

    A joy to watch. It must have been a ****ing nightmare fighting him. Imagine the frustration, giving it absolutely everything and not landing one clean punch.

    He's the greatest lw of all time. Beat one of the greatest ww's of all time. Fought competitively with one of the greater mw's of all time. Beat barkley coming off of his destruction of the hitman. Has beaten plenty of hof boxers. Fighter of the decade of the 70's. Great longevity.

    I never said underrated did I:bart i said under apprieciated:yep & i was'nt talking about posters here, it was in the all too obvious generic sense:yep

    Pernell was with Lou Duva's Main Events & if he'd been with King it would have been a whole different story as far as to getting the Global recognition he deserved. He was an obsticle that had to be removed & that was removed when Pernell got shafted in the 1st Ramirez fight thus allowing the march of JCC to proceded un-hindered towards the 135 unification & then JCC leapt up & away to 140.

    They fight nothing alike. There defenses arent even the same.

    The only similarity are they are both black defensively orientated fighters. One's a southpaw, ones orthodox, ones technical, ones fluid.

    Seriously you're dumb.

    Sweet Pea had the reflexes of a cat. His speed, timing and accuracy were amazingly supernatural!

    :lol::lol::lol:

    Shut it you pathetic nit picking selective hair-splitting squealing *****sexual *****, this is a thread for people who now what true boxing ability's all about in it's true difinitive sense & it's not for the likes of shitbags *****sexuals like you who dribble & drool over a real & true fraudster of the modern day ring.

    Mayweather is PURE **** compared to the all time defensive mastercraftsman in Sweetpea & you never saw sweetpea duck any challenge in his life either, unlike that cherry picking bag of **** mayweather.... Whitaker would dismantle mayweather & pick him apart, he'd humiliate him, floyd would think he's being raped by a boxing octopus:deal It's a Pernell shutout or TKO or disqualification when Floyd jumps out of the ring such would the gulf in class expose mayweather:deal Now **** off:yep

    Floyd and Pernell are both defensive masters, but their approach to defence and general style in the ring is quite different.

    Floyd always looks really business-like in the ring, he rarely throws combinations, always goes for a safety first approach, mostly uses the shoulder-roll and doesn't really use his jab much. He's very economical, and rarely wastes a single shot. He's very consistent, and while he doesn't often pull any surprises out of his hat, he's so good that it doesn't matter.

    Pernell is quite a different fighter. His jab was a key weapon in his arsenal, he loved to throw combinations and keep up a high workrate, and he enjoyed taking risks and improvising in the ring, with a flashier and seemingly more creative approach. He's much looser than Floyd, more prone to unpredictable antics and enjoying himself rather than only focusing on winning.

    They're both very good boxers, but I definitely prefer Whitaker. I like how the highlight showcases his versatility -- he can move and frustrate the other guy with his great jab, he can stand in the pocket and throw combinations to smother them while weaving away from return fire, he throws surprisingly good bodyshots for a 'boxer' type, he has great straight-left counters while moving backwards, and while he's a defensive specialist, his offence is pretty good too. He didn't have much power, but he didn't really need it.

    On another note, in an interview Floyd once stated that Whitaker is one of the fighters he would have most liked to share a ring with.

    How did you score his fights with Rivera? I'm making them my next fights to be re-watched and given a final score.
