Why are Ali,Whittaker, Toney, and Mayweather Sr. so punch drunk. There styles rely heavily on slipping punches/defense which means that they got hit less, right?

Don't forget Wilfred Benitez, and the late Floyd Patterson and Jimmy Young. It is ironic how the defensive specialists seem to end up with dementia.

because their defensive abilities erode as they get older and they are not conditioned to take too many hard punches to the head.

Willie Pep, arguably the greatest defensive fighter of all time, died of pugilistic dementia. Even the great defensive fighters get hit a lot if they fight a lot (both in fights and training) and especially if they fight on too long.

Ali got floored 5 times, and got hit flush loads of times. His defense wasn't as impenetrable as his nuthuggers think.

Pernell, Toney and Floyd Joy were born punch-drunk!

i think they are not used to get punched in face and when getting older they absorb unusual punishment for them!

How is roy after Lebadev fight haven't heard him!

Guys take a lot of punishment on the way up to master those skills, and a guy who wins in a 12 round schooling can still take more damage than a guy who gets his man out of there early.
One other thing though, pep was pretty damn old when he died and was coherent even as an old man. I think he's one of the best case scenarios, really.
