    Is Vitali the greatest ever Hw 40 year old?

    His post 40 year old record at the moment consists of a former light heavyweight, but as far as ability, he probably is unless something dramatic takes place in the near future.

    Corbett, Fitz, Burns, Johnson, Dempsey , Tunney, Schmeling, Braddock, Walcott, Patterson, Ali, Ellis, Spinks x 2, Jones, Toney Byrd and a load of others were former Light Heavys too.

    i think foreman right now is edging it on accomplishments, vitali is right up there in terms of form

    a shout out to archie moore whose record post 40 at heavyweight was tremendous and many, many posters on here who are better informed than I can elaborate no doubt

    Liston is the greatest 50+ year old fighter. He went by the name of Elmer Ray while in his late 30's.

    Probably true but you knocked him on the L/H bit and he was probably the World no 3.
    Good call on Moore and I suppose Larry Holmes has to be in there.

    It's easier being a former light heavyweight taking on 200 pound heavyweights but Vitali is 6'8 and 250 pounds. I'm not taking away his accomplishments due to size but as far as an achievement, beating Adamek is not much of a one. Everyone saw this coming from a mile away when the fight was signed.

    Jack Johnson had quite a resume after turning 40 too.

    did anyone see vitalis footwork. so clumsy at times its unreal, if fighters werent so intimidated by him, he would have much harder challenges and his chin might get tested again (no doubt its still an iron chin)
