    the people - the fans.

The fight was a war - brutal - very competitive.

    The fight ending was inconclusive.

Unconvincing way for Lewis to win - a fight he was losing.

People wanted and demanded a rematch.

I thought Holyfield beat him in both fights. The second one clearly. For me Lewis best wins were Golota, the come back win over Rahman and Ruddock. The wins over Tua and Grant were also decent but both guys were in their first top level fight.

Lewis summoned Vitali to his offices in London - to discuss a rematch.

Vitali went and met Lewis to discuss details like Gentlemen.

Lewis Mother - Violet - looked Vitali up and down at the meeting - and decided that she did not want Lewis fighting him again.

So Lewis bowed to his Mums will.

Funny enough David Haye is the exact same height and weight as Foreman in his prime.

its the kind of win that will be appricaited as time passes by.

the better Vitali does - the more valued Lewis win becomes over him.

Back in 2003 - it was just a win for Lewis - he scraped through - against a guy who quit against Chris Byrd.

But since then Vitali has not lost - and dominated the division - so that win is certainly one of Lewis best in the passing of time.

Ok, but u still didn't answer my question. Would it have been better for him to publicly declare he wasn't interested in a rematch straight away?

If he had said what hes been saying since he retired "I already beat him so why rematch him" then yes I would have no problem with it.
He instead chose to tell everyone he would be in better shape for the rematch,KO Vitali in the rematch etc etc etc.A tentative date was even talked about(Dec 6)Lewis stopped talking and Klitschko hammered Kirk Johnson on that date to make himself mando to Lewis again. Two months later Lennon Lewis announced his retirement.

So Lennox must have been running from him which automatically makes him a greater HW? Ooh I see :good

Based on that logic, I'm now Team Vitali :-(

    Dont know really.

I dont think Lewis knew himself what he wanted - straight away - needed time to reflect - cos he was close to the end then anyway.

It was assumed a rematch would happen.

But Lewis just strung things out - and then eventually announced his retirement.

Bit of a anti-climax - but the dust needed to settle on the fight before Lewis could come to a decsion.

He was smart not to rematch Vitali - but it left that feeling of he ducked it.

I never said he ran away:-(and if you read my previous posts I said Lennox will ALWAYS be the greater HW based on who he beat so calm down.
Imagine Joe Calzaghe talking up a rematch with Nard for 8 months after the first fight, telling the world this time he will destroy him easily etc etc and then after all that talking, retiring. Most on here would call him an idiot but not Saint Lennox.
You said why would he face a man he already beat but then give the payday excuse as to why he would even contemplate facing a fat washed up Mike Tyson when no one wanted to see that garbage:lol:We all wanted to see that rematch because it was a great fight.

I really don't understand your point, your upset the rematch didn't happen because it was a good fight first time round?

Don't see how you can duck a man that you beat already...
