"one that precedes and indicates the approach of another"

Now read that sentence to comprehend what it means. The reporter asked if the Ortiz fight was a precursor to Manny. That means ...is a manny fight coming after Ortiz? So yes, by saying "Manny Pacquiao, you're next" he did indeed indicate Ortiz was a precursor to Manny.

 

So what exactly does Floyd mean when he said "Pac... You're next"
