Hard to say of the fights that I've seen, but one of the bravest things I recall was in
1947,when the great Beau Jack BROKE an kneecap in the 3rd round against Tony Janiro, and hopped around on one leg ,like a chicken, and refused to quit, until the crowd
screamed in unison, and the referee stopped the bout in the 4th round. What a brave
performance he also put up in 1948 in Philly which I saw when Beau up against the ropes
in the sixth round ,and his hands entangled in the ropes took dozens of murderous punches from Ike Williams, until we in the crowd, and Ike himself begged the referee to stop the slaughter, and eventually the ref did, thus saving the brave Beau Jack's life.
Too bad ESB fans have never seen the young brave, exciting Beau Jack, pre 1947. He even whipped a still potent Henry Armstrong in 1943,at Henry's own game...

In a twist of events, this same injury would later hinder Janiro's career and one can see him on film trying to fight on desperately with an injured leg against Kid Gavilan.
