I initially picked Duran, but as I think about it a little more, I'm leaning towards SRL. It's very close between the two. I think SRL was more adaptable as others have said, but in terms of a complete skill set, I lean towards the Duran of Montreal, who had it all.

Leonard could box, brawl, punch, move, defend, attack. He could adapt to an opponents style, and beat a wider array of styles than Hagler or Duran. So im saying Leonard

Duran had it all, perhaps the most effective and consistent in terms of gameplan. But his overall consistency isnt all too great, he lost to many boxers and struggled against fighters that moved well.

Hagler had it all aswell, but he did not face the competition to the level of SRL or Duran so its difficult to rank him number one.

Hagler. He could do it all.

He could box on the outside when he needed to.

He could stand there and slug toe to toe with the best of them when he felt like it.

He could counter punch extremely well when it suited him.

In his prime he was quick, punched hard, accurate, obviously had an iron chin, good defensively, was superb offensively, had great stamina, and he could do it all. He was one of the most complete fighters of all time in his prime.

All of these men have outstanding skills both natural and technical.

I'd say Hearns, but his chin holds him back. Duran would be a decent option, but he was too short and despite that physical handicap he could hold his own against larger men. Leonard would be the most obvious pick, but his inactivity makes you wonder if he would have been as dominant as the other champs. Hagler seems to be the most well rounded, and that leaves his poor showing again Leonard as the biggest strike against him.

I'll consider Hagler the most complete. He doesn't appear as natural as the others, but he has one hell of a chiseled (experienced) pedigree. His boxer/puncher, southpaw/orthodox style made him quite the puzzle especially when some fighters realized they didn't have the power to hurt him. I also like how he seems to be the most "self made" of all the fighters with Duran as a close 2nd in that category. Leonard was smart in exposing Hagler the way he did at the time that he did, but I can't ever say that prime-for-prime that Leonard would last the iron tough Hagler.

Leonard. Truely the best overall at all ranges, and physically the most complete blend of speed, power, and durability.

Duran or Hagler would be good shouts, but I'm quite sure that at even at their respective best weight and prime years they're much more likely to be outsped and outthought in chessmatches. Hagler had a tendency to be a little underwhelming as far as outside game, and it certainly cost him against Leonard, and made him look worse than he could have against Duran. Leonard on the other hand showed himself to be pretty solid at this distance, especially against Benitez. On the front foot both guys are better than Leonard, but i wouldn't say THAT much better- as far as up and close skillset i'd say he's on par with Hagler there at least, although maybe not Duran.

Hearns's lack of a decent inside game hurt him here, although I do think he's even better than Leonard on the back foot at his best.

It's interesting to see that each fighter seems to have a version of "kryptonite" for each other fighter.

I was going to say Leonard but somebody said he was the most 'adaptable' and that provoked some thinking from me, that's probably right. Duran is the most skilled of them though.

I would probably go with Leonard to answer the thread question, but am inclined to go with Hagler. I'll say Leonard because when he put in a complete performance he really did, whereas Hagler would do one or the other usually.

There wasn't anything Ray Leonard didn't have in his prime. He was definitely the most complete (and beat all of them).

The funny thing is Hagler gets the least of these attributes and yet he still beat all 3 of them.

The funnier thing is that, despite having a size advantage over all of them, he was made to look rather ordinary by the oldest and smallest one, had to force a slugfest with the most fragile one, and actually, you know, lost to the one who hadn't fought in 3 years.

    Hilarious.
