This, although what Im reading lately people seem to be under the impression that Diaz is MMA's Tommy Hearns with regards to the stand up Diaz just simply cant afford to miss as many jabs as he does and throw hooks like a ****** swatting a fly against a guy with possibly the best Jab/Straight combo in MMA and the Granite chin (this ones for you MM ) Penn undoubtedly has Id like to see Diaz maybe work the body in this one, but he doesnt seem to do this until he has a guy covering up against the cage. If he can keep Penn working and drain his stamina then the later rounds will be interesting. But I dont see him finishing Penn and I think BJ will have two rounds in the bag before stamina becomes an issue
BJ... and i hope he smashes his face in! I say he stops him in the first or second! I've said it before and i'll say it again... the Diaz brothers are both no0B's! Lynchburg
That's the beauty of Penn in a three-rounder.:good Here's my more detailed breakdown from another thread.
Stoo, I'll be astonished if this fight doesn't make us look like a pair of Nostradamuses because to me, the fight is pretty cut and dried simply by looking at the disparity in boxing ability. I guess if sheeple hear a guy like Shamrock rant and rave about Diaz's "boxing" enough they start to believe it, even if they are supposedly boxing fans, first and foremost.
If Diaz somehow channels the spirit of Larry Holmes than that jab he throws could be a problem with his reach advantage But he wont, his jab isnt more than a range finder in terms of damage it does, and BJ doesnt mark up easily for it to effect his vision if he can land it. And Will Cooling brought up the point that BJ always has the option to take Nick down if he does get overwhelmed
Penn makes it difficult on himself. I don't think 170 Penn is in amazing shape to still be pushing come round 3. I think he is good mentally but not unstoppable. Diaz has the edge in intangiables - size, cardio, heart etc If Penn doesn't have the skills I'm not sure if he can rely on a big punch etc to get him out of trouble. Penn does have skills but Diaz is coming off of good striking fights which showed his striking is much improved. His jits is top notch also. They are very similar fighters with a very similar mentality. They both want to win a fight not a mixed martial arts competition. Size and a high octane approach might tell the tale for Diaz but Penn has the talent advantage in speed, co-ordination, agility, dexterity etc so he could stop Diaz from employing his strengths. 50-50 fight but a domination by either wouldn't shock me.
I see a close UD for Penn, Diaz is not as bad at boxing as people are saying, or BJ as good imo, On the ground however, I see Penn having a decent advantage in spite of Diaz' proficiency from the guard. Not really a war this one, more of a tactical battle.
