I agree with most of this. I know there is a lack of opponents for Wlad and you can't really fault him for having a stay busy fight against an easy opponent, though Mormeck is a terrible choice. The division is weak, absolutely, but there are better options. The thing which will bother me though, is if this type of non-event is sold as a big deal. Realistically, it belongs on an undercard of a good fight and if Wlad does that, then there are no issues. I certainly don't think this fight should be sold as credible to fans though because that hurts the sport in the long run. Nobody wants to see a terrible undercard followed up by a mismatch in the main event, for however many euros per seat. It's wrong and it hurts the sport. I hope sense prevails. I understand Wlad fighting a no-hoper but if they are going to go ahead with it, it should be on a undercard, have very cheap attendance tickets or have several world class fights on the undercard for it.
The Heavyweight Champion whos the biggest Sports star in Germany fighting on a undercardatschSeriously man. Go look at other top Heavyweight champs, they all fought garbage here and there.Look at some of the absolute pile of **** Ali fought in the 70s
I am sure that this fight won't be on the undercard, and I am sure that Wlad will sell plenty of tickets and have plenty of viewers on TV. Also, most people love watching a fight like this to see Wlad destroy his opponent. I am not saying that I won't watch.... but I am certainly disappointed with the opponent. I am happy for Mormeck that he will get a good payday and the chance of his lifetime... however, I would could have easily named 15 opponents who I would rather have seen Wlad fight next. This isn't anything new or groundbreaking. Every champ has fights like this. It's just that I personally want to see him fight plenty of other opponents. Mormeck isn't even close to being on my radar of interest.
Couple observations.... 1) only the Klitschkoes would take this kind of criticism for fighting Mormeck. Yes Haye would be criticized because he's already knocked JMM out. However, it was a competitive fight. If Povetkin or Adamek were to announce a fight with Mormeck, most of us would look forward to a good fight. 2) I suspect the main reason this fight is being considered is getting K2 exposure in France, selling more movie DVDs, maybe attracting some new fans etc. Not to mention French PPV and/or tv rights. Fighting Gomez or Pulev in Duesseldorf might make for a more competitive bout, but the same money and exposure wouldn't be there.
In June of 2009, the WBA stripped Chagaev just b4 or after Wlad KOd him. Chagaev was the legitimate WBA champ, beating the former titlist Valuev fair and square and then defending it against legit WBA ranked fighters 22-1 Matt Skelton, and 27-0 Carl Drummond. Drummond, I think, was mandatory. His fight with Wlad was to be a unification bout, but DK protested the fight saying that Valuev had beaten Liakovich and deserved the shot......I thought that unification bouts superceded mandatories, especially if the champ had faced his last mandatory within the last 6 mos.(Drummond) Nonetheless, Chagaev was stripped, and Valuev ended up with it once again. Well, we know that Haye squeaked past Valuev in a voluntary defense of his title, and Hayes first defense was against Ruiz, a voluntary defense since Ruiz did not fight an eliminator and wasnt ranked #1 by the WBA. Chagaev fought Kali Meehan in June of 2010 in the eliminator making him the mandatory for Haye, but when the details were being ironed out, it was discovered by the boxing public that the BBBoC had banned fighters with a communicable disease from participation in fights, and refused to sanction the fight if it were held in GB. Of course haye, being the champ and promoter of the fight, chose to stage the fight in GB, therefore being LEGALLY able to duck his mandatory and take a second consecutive voluntary vs Harrison. If this debate is still going on, I'll find the link to Chagaevs protest of his denial to fight for the belt that was rightfully Klitschko's to begin with. The WBA and the BBoC should be ****ing ashamed of themselves, and now they've even gone a step further to make us forget the atrocities they committed 2 yrs ago with Wladimir and Chagaev.
Tyson Fury is fighting in a couple days... I don't see why that fight couldn't be made afterward. Robert Helenius - why isn't he available? Dimitrenko is fighting next weekend. A fight could be made afterward. Chris Arreola - why isn't he available? Hell, I would rather see him go clean up the Solis mess in his downtime. Although, I felt that Vitali won clearly and in legit fashion. All of those fights don't seem hard to make... and I would much rather see them than the Mormeck fight. Of course... that is assuming that those guys would even accept a fight against Wlad. I am sure that Arreola would if the others didn't.
Fury & Helenius have said they are not ready for a Klitschko and want more fights. Dimitrenko? maybe he would fight in Dec im not sure. Arreola is fighing in November according to Goossen.
if haye fought chagaev ANYWHERE he would have his licence revoked. haye did not duck him. he would never be allowed to fight him ANYWHERE. & i have no idea how all that bull**** you've just posted relates to what you originally said anyway. not even a nice try. just burying your wrongness underneath yet more bull****.
Very true... but for good reason. Wlad is the true champ and needs to be held to a higher standard. It used to **** me off when Lennox would take long breaks in between fights and then try to fight subpar opponents, so in all fairness I have to keep the same standards for Wlad. As I stated before... it wouldn't bother me if Wlad was fighting every 3 months... but he certainly isn't and that is just too much of his prime wasted on a fight with Mormeck.
Ok, I understand Fury and Helenius and agree that they need more time. (however who knows how long Wlad will be around, can't wait forever) Arreola would certainly cancel any possible future fight for a shot at Wlad. Especially one that isn't even scheduled yet! This would be Wlad's perfect fight to enter back onto the American fight stage. I think that a fight against Arreola would be perfect for Wlad right now. He could come to the US, once again be shown on HBO... a fighter who is going to be aggressive and bring out the best in Wlad... no way that fight doesn't turn out exciting for the viewers. Wlad always puts on his best/most exciting peformances against aggressive opponents.
Arreola has been offered a fight with Wlad for Novemeber. That was just after the Haye fight. Everyone thought it was as good as signed, but for some reason Arreola thinks he can get a better deal sometime next year. Helenius has 16 fights, and while he's definitely the 3rd best HW on the world, he's still young, and why throw away his 0 today for maybe a mil tops, when he can wait 2-3 yrs, attain the Euro and WBA straps, and fight for 5 million vs a 37 y/o Wladimir. Makes more sense if you think about it. Dimitrenko says he wants Vitali. I think he sees Vitali is the easier to hit, and since he has only a punchers chance anyway, Vitali, being 40, and slower than Wlad would be his best chance for a title outside Potvetkin. I made a list of the available and WILLING top opponents in that other post. Those are the guys available and WILLING to fight Wlad in Dec. I think Wlad picked Mormeck over Grant b/c obviously Mormeck is a MUCH, MUCH larger payday and does about the same legacywise as beating Grant would. Either fight ends in a Wlad by KO 4-8. I guess it just depends on if we want to see Wlad vs a larger slugger with a suspect chin, or a slick, popular boxerpuncher who's only been KOd by seriously heavyhanded fighters, Bell and Haye.
because guys dont want to lose.... any many guys like Arreola have stated "spring of next year at the earliest"...thats what Im talking about..... some said "NO" but could be an option next year
like we have been saying Dimit is already fighting Arreola has been quoted: "Next spring at the earliest"
