It's good that they're putting their foot down on these bollocks title.

"This is the same body that recognised the WBU when Ricky Hatton was a champion, Eamonn Magee and Micky Ward. So I am at odds to understand why it’s good enough for some but not for me."

Probably because it's not the same body, Rogie.

Good news. It's conning the fans at the end of the day. Fight a good opponent for a proper title (like Fury or Pulev he both turned down) or fight cans if you want but don't dress it up as a significant fight.

how was it not the same wbu? the other already has an active champ. fact is, when ward, hatton etc. won it it was quite new, and the belts were fairly active, now its literally barely been fough for for years.

It's a new rule from the board. They won't be sanctioning any more Mickey Mouse 'world' title belts.

Less than two weeks after he announced his WBU heavyweight title fight, Martin Rogan has been forced to cancel the Odyssey event.
The British Boxing Board of Control have made it clear that they will not sanction WBU title fights and it has transpired that an organisation in American and another in Germany both lay claim to the lightly-regarded belt.
Rogan had claimed that his clash with Panamanian Luis Andres Pineda on October 27 would be a World title fight but everyone in boxing knows the true champions are Wladimir and Vitali Klitschko.
The Ukrainian brothers are the target of Tyson Fury who returns to the ring tomorrow night in the King’s Hall against North American champion Nicolai Firtha.
The cancellation of Rogan’s fight could now lead to the Belfast man taking on Fury in Belfast in November, assuming the British and Commonwealth champion comes through against Firtha.
The Odyssey Arena remains booked for October 27 but it seems highly unlikely that the show will go ahead.
The former Commonwealth heavyweight champion can only hope that he receives one final offer to face Fury otherwise his career could well remain on hold, having recently pulled out of an EU title fight.

    A shame for Rogan that.
Ireland will have to wait a wee while longer for a World Heavyweight Champion....

Brilliant news. Boxing may be a sham on the world stage but hopefully the BBBofC can ensure it isn't domestically. The WBU has no place in our country.
