Arum has said that Cotto was not ready for floyd at 140 even though he was champ at 140.. so instead of hatton and Cotto at 140 poor Henry and Gatti took the beating for these two guys

Here are the guys who were beltholders at 140 when Cotto was:

    Vivian Harris
    Kostya Zoo
    Ricky Hatton
    Floyd Mayweather
    Arturo Gatti

He didnt fight any of them. So does that mean he ducked them?? :think

i'm saying ya'll putting off cotto so quickly. even if floyd wins over margo and cotto, he still could have fought them and made them concrete. so you're saying sicne floyd is the favorite over everybody, he can fight anyone at random and would not make a difference?

The biggest fight to be made in 2008 was Floyd vs Cotto. Floyd killed the idea saying Cotto is not a big name enough to merit a fight with him. He went on to "retire."

    Cotto in an interview
“When you call yourself the best boxer in the world you have to fight with the best. There are other names at 147 pounds and if Mayweather does not have the courage to get in the ring to fight with me, my career has to continue. I won’t wait for him.” –Miguel Cotto 2008

    2005-2006.

Floyd left TR after the Gatti fight, then Arum got him the Judah fight, and he came back.

Arum was pushing Margo to fight Floyd and was going to give Floyd 8 million to do so, but it would lock Floyd in for another few years.

Arum also said he would only give him 8 million for MArgo, and 7 for Cotto. He also said he would not make the DLH fight for Floyd, under any circumstances.

Instead, Floyd paid Arum 750,00 to buy out his contract, and went to fight Baldo for the lineal title. He then fought DLH in the biggest fight ever, and made a killing.

After this, he moved down to 147. This was in 2007. Cotto had a belt at 147. Arum never even pursued the offer for Cotto to fight Floyd, and instead went with the lesser challenge of fighting Mosley.

Floyd then fought Hatton. Cotto then fought Gomez. These are the facts. :deal:deal

This is the best you could find?:verysad I remember reading this back when it came out. The first thing I thought was why doesn't he announce it to the world to try to put pressure on Floyd. Because he's a dumbass thats why? Great fighter but dumb as a box of rocks.

First of all, that article contains NO quotes from Cotto about fighting Floyd. NONE!!

Secondly it refers to Floyd as the WBA champion. Floyd has NEVER held a WBA title in his whole career.

Third, Cotto had the option to fight Paul Williams in a big unification fight, Williams having called him out several times. Instead, he fought Alfonso Gomez, who posed NO THREAT whatsoever.

Lmao you ****en nood. Don't rewrite history

Arum wanted Cotto to fight the winner of Floyd-DLH fight in 2007. But Floyd "retired" after the fight and wouldn't even give DLH the chance for a rematch. Then Floyd came out of retirement to Fight Hatton. And retired again completely ducking Cotto. He said Cotto is not a big name enough and won't waste time to fight him. He also expressed his desire to retire out of boxing intact and without brain damage.

    "
Promoter of World Boxing Association welterweight champion Miguel Cotto, Bob Arum, would like to see his fighter in against either Floyd Mayweather Jr. or Oscar De La Hoya in Cotto’s up coming bout. Arum, however, realizes that both De La Hoya and Mayweather will perhaps not being interested in fighting with Cotto at this time, and has other top fighters in mind, specifically Antonio Margarito, Joshua Clottey, Paul Williams or Kermit Cintron.
Of the four names, Margarito appears to be the most likely available for a bout with Cotto, but for that fight to happen, it would have to be a lot of money involved, as Cotto has said that he wouldn’t fight Margarito unless the money is there. No doubt, it would be a high risk bout for Cotto, hence his interest in De La Hoya or Mayweather is much higher.
Arum is interested mainly in the winner of the Mayweather vs. Hatton bout, which takes place on December 8th at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada. The fact that Arum is bringing up Mayweather’s name first, indicates that he figures that Floyd will be the ultimate winner of the bout, which would take Hatton out of the running for a future bout with Cotto. Arum expresses doubt, however, that Hatton would want to fight Cotto, should he defeat Mayweather, because he believes that Hatton would rather take the easier – and more lucrative – bout against De La Hoya, whom has expressed a lot of interest in fighting Hatton.
However, Arum feels that Mayweather, too, will likley avoid fighting Cotto, knowing it will be a tough fight that he may not win. Mayweather has a lot of other options available to him, such as De La Hoya, a rematch with Hatton, Paul Williams or Kermit Cintron, to name just a few.
“Well I think if it’s Hatton, he would rather fight De La Hoya. You can’t blame him, it’s more money and probably an easier fight. But I don’t think Hatton can win that fight, Mayweather will win that fight and the idea of Mayweather fighting Cotto seems to me to be farfetched because Floyd ain’t fighting anybody who could beat him no less hurt him like Miguel can,” Arum said.

Yes 2006, one week after the Judah fight he offered Arum a contract to fight Margarito at 8mil, Cotto & Hatton at 10mil, and DLH at 20mil. Arum didn't believe Mayweather's style of fighting would be able to generate that type of income so he turned him down.
