Rocky Marciano vs Joe Frazier

You're right. Moore was probably a much superior puncher, although I'm not sure who would have the edge in raw force.

 

Not only would Rocky KO Schmeling but I believe he'd do the same to Frazier as well.

First of all, Frazier was a one handed fighter and would certainly catch too many punches trying to land against the Rock. Keep in mind that Rocky was also better defensively

the way I see it, Rocky's pluses outweight Frazier's. I'm not even sure Frazier has an advantage other than a few pounds

Well said. I agree. Always thought Marciano had a style advantage being the slugger-swarmer variation despite the weight advantage (Which surely will be over-analyzed considering Marciano's superior power and probably equal strength... perhaps better strength). Goldman said that anyone that comes at Rocky loses.

For me, The Bonavena fights are a pretty good indicator as to why I think Rocky would prevail (Where's Rocky is superior in virtual every aspect). Hell, it's hard to argue that it's not a coin toss despite that.

 

You have to remember Moore caught Marciano with a sneak punch that Marciano didn't even see. Surely Marciano wouldn't have to be attacking forward with Frazier coming straight towards him.

Marciano's crouch vs Frazier's left hook would be interesting. Frazier didn't like the small target journeyman Terry Daniels presented himself. It seemed to give difficulties to his left body left head combination.

Sure Frazier has the speed edge, but it's not like he's some Mike Tyson like combination puncher. He mainly throws single shot or 1-2 shots. For whatever speed edges he maintains, Marciano has the superior two hands anyway.

 

Frazier's hook was harder than any punch Moore could throw between 175 to 192 pounds..... Frazier's hook at 205 to 210 pounds was wicked-ass ****......... Marciano doesn't want no part of it after first tasting it early and goes into a shell.... Frazier by KO inside 5.....

I can't see Marciano shelling up against a guy who would give him so many opportunities for those beloved uppercuts against a guy who led with his face.

 

I don't care who wins. Just please get me a front-row seat!

Marciano has the style advantage here , there is no doubt about that. He was more defensive and threw with both hands. I also feel his uppercuts would be a nightmare for Frazier who would be coming at him face first and the way he bobs his head up and down means that the power of Marcianos uppercuts is increased as Fraziers head is moving into them.

Fraziers advantage is that he is more athletic than Marciano, his left hook is more powerful than anything Marciano has faced and anything Marciano would have to offer. The amount of times he got up against Foreman makes me think he could do that if dropped by Marciano although this would depend how late on in the fight it was.

If i was pressured to pick one i would go for Marciano, he has that style advantage and is the tougher of the two and would presumably land more punches as Frazier is looking to land the one punch.

 

I don't know about that. Marciano was almost a proffessional catcher in baseball, and a very good linebacker in high school football. Frazier was the fat kid, who didn't know how to swim.

 

In boxing terms he is more "athletic" though. Faster with hands and feet and better coordinated.

20 pounds is a lot to give in this type of a fight I feel but I have enough faith in Marciano's ability that it would not necessarily be the determining factor. Weight is not Frazier's only advantage over Marciano though.

 

IMO whoever lost this fight would be downhill from there. The amount of punishment they would take... both take actually... could mean the downside of their career

Marciano had too much fire power for Frazier as far as pace they were equal but Marciano hit too hard with both hands and he was craftier than given credit for. Frazier came strait at you and that worked against fighters in retreat, bottom line is Marciano would get hit less and land a few unorthodox bombs...I love Frazier, great fighter and man but even he said the 2 men that would beat him was Louis and Marciano and I agree with him

If the question is who is better than i go with Marciano

If the question is who had the better swarming style I would say Marciano defensively and he was hard to time and harder to avoid

 

I'd say Marciano being better defensively than Frazier is very arguable. More awkward and less predictable perhaps, but it's not like the man didn't get hit. Against a straight-up slugger like Rex Layne his defense was definitely better but Frazier is a different story.
