Lumumba Estaba was a few years older than 24 when he first took up boxing, turned professional after his 29th birthday, then became history's first substantial Light Flyweight Champion with 12 successful title defenses.

Ron Lyle turned professional only after reaching 30.

Didn't Matt Skelton start at 37 years old and get into The Ring top-10?

If you want it go get it, the worst that can happen is that you fail and you will be better for trying either way.

im in some what of the same situation as you, just a bit younger. im 20. only thing is ive been training by myself for 6 years. i made up my mind to put school to the side and give this boxing **** a try. so once school is done im moving to the big city to live with my brother and start training and getting some fights, because we have nowhere to train where i live. as already mentioned, lots of guys have gotten their start late, sergio martinez, junior dos santos, ray mercer, to name a few. you only live once, i say go for it. you can work and go to school whenever

Just do it. You only live once.

But you have no time to waste. Jump into it with both feet and go as far as your talent will take you.

much respect but it's tough to start at that late age especially at the lower weight classes. if you're dead set on giving it a go, i would have a few amateur fights first. if it doesn't work out just take pride in the fact that you got in there.

If you have athletic ability and you've played a number of different sports, then it's not too late at all. The guys who are best at making split second decisions are people who played lots of different sports as a kid. That's why a kid should never be focused on one sport only.

    Get some Am fights? Sure.

    Career? Not likely.

Why risk the brain damage to be a blah fighter? Not saying you can't be more, but you will be going pro against guys who have been doing this all their lives. That is a tall drink of water.

:hi: Dude, to help you out, I was 24 too when I started.. I'm 25 now.. And I'm into boxing for only less than 4 months now.. :)

I've not set any goals to myself but to learn the sport and then think of what I can achieve, later, may be..

But my intentions are clear. I'm not into boxing for getting or staying in shape. I've never been out of shape in my life.. I'm into this because I want to learn it..

So its all up to what we want out of it.. Good Luck mate.. :thumbsup

That's essential, but not just a few, try and get 20 amateur fights under your belt so you know whats what
