Lennox-"At this point Vitali is untouchable"

The entire boxing world would breathe a sigh of relief if he were to finally admit that.

He wouldn't even have to directly say it. Just *imply* it.


But it is interesting to hear Lewis give Vitali such praise. Vitali is older by two/three years at his unbeatable state, than Lewis was when he retired due to *feeling his body start to decline*.

 

Not Lewis if not for rematches *******!

 

Rahman did have the guts to get back in the ring with Lewis after He got lucky. Why didnt Lennox?:think

 

:smoke TWO great fighters who had a great fight . And maybe both benefit by leaving questions ? Just a thought .

Many folks think that Lewis was going to retire following '03 fight with Vitali.

This is not true. Lewis was NOT planning to retire in 2003. The only reason Lewis retired was so that he did not have to face Vitali again. The rematch was in the works for December with Lewis hoping that Vitali would not recover in time for the fight. When it became clear that Vitali's cuts were healing just fine and he would be cleared to fight in December, Lewis changed his tune and pulled out of the fight. Vitali easily defeated Johnson and forced mandatory defense for Lewis. Lewis announced his retirement within one week before WBC meeting scheduled to strip him of the title.

It is obvious that had Vitali not recovered in time for December fight Lewis would fight Johnson or RJJ instead, or, if Vitali lost to Johnson, Lewis would defend against Johnson in '04.

 

Sometimes the "next" best fighter fights well against the previous best fighter and it's a preview of what's to come in the division. An analogy is how Salvador Sanchez was losing a tough fight to Azumah Nelson and rallied, like a great champion, to score a late KO over the future great. Nelson of course later became the best featherweight. Of course a big difference is that Sanchez died so we didn't get to see a rematch.

By the way, I don't think most VK and WK fans dislike Lewis. I certainly was a fan of Lewis as well. VK's showing against Lewis showed that he was an up and comer and destined for being a champion himself someday, like Nelson's performance against Sanchez.

It's Haye I don't like. Lennox earned all the praise and admiration he received by his performances in the ring against many top fighters. Haye avoids fighting other heavyweight contenders. He should not get a shot at Vitali until he beats one of the top ten heavyweights.

 

i actually scored that last round for Vitali . he landed mosy of the hard punches with the choppinf overhand right and the left lennox landed one good uppercut and one decent one a few jabs vitali pushed the action and did tie him up
