    Fellas,

Whether or not you saw the fight live at the arena or on PPV in 1988, their is no doubt that "Hearns-Kinchen" proved to be a classic boxing fight for the ages...
    :p
Many at ringside felt Kinchen got screwed on the cards, while others feel Hearns won the decision based on the jab.... Myself, I felt a draw would've been fair...
    :yep
A great fight that is now often over-looked... Why?:blood

Who else liked this fight from '88???:huh:good

I loved the fight. I did not think Kinchen got screwed. He did knock down Tommy in round 4 and made the fight even after 4 rounds, even after the first 3 rounds which Thomas won. The 4th Tommy ws knocked down and holding onto Mills Lane and all that, but Tommy fought more to win than Kinchen. And Tommy was more active down the stretch when it was Kinchen who should have been pouring it on to beat the legend. And he didn't. Many of those mid rounds Tommy barely won just on experience, but he edged them. His experience got him that fight and he knew how to win rounds where Kinchen did not at the high level.

Good call...... To me, this is similar to "Ali-Norton 3." Norton and Kinchen both felt they won, despite coming up short on the officisl cards....... A draw being rendered in both fights of '76 or '88 would suit me fine, but I'm okay with both Ali & Hearns getting the "W" after the smoke cleared...

Kinchen got waxed in '89 by Hill:yikes

Reminds me of the Lopez-Page,Mayweather-Brazier fights in a way.Like Lopez and Brazier with their respective opponents,Kinchen had Hearns seriously hurt(I don't think he truly recovered after the fourth round) but wasn't prepared to make a sustained attack in order to finish his opponent off.

I had it a draw the last time I watched it,and don't think Kinchen deserved anything more than that.Tommy simply wanted it more and probably did enough to earn the decision.

I thought Kitchen should have just won or a draw would of been fair. But I thought that the posibliity that Hearns would have been DQ in the fifth for exessive holding. Kitchen should take the blame for letting Hearns get back into the bout as he always seamed to be in 2nd gear and never seamed to be to urgent with anything.

Hearns did have a big bout loming which might of had some thing to do with the descision, I think it was Leonard.

'Mayweather-Brazier" of June 1988 at 140 pounds for Roger's WBC title is also a forgotten gem...... I have it and I love it...... A damn good war that hardly anyone ever speaks about today...

23 years on I can sit here easy and agree it was a fun fight. But at the time I was horrified. One of my all time favourite fighters looked completely shot, nearly losing to a complete waste of talent.

It does show you how good Tommy was, as he came back to draw with Leonard and thoroughly outpoint a primed undefeated Quicksilver Hill, and even when I finally got to see him fight live (against Nate Miller), he still had a little bit of magic left.

Great Fight! I felt as though Hearns did enough to win it. Very close indeed.

I have a copy of Kinchen's sleepwalk loss to James Shuler, but my video snapped off recently upon rewinding the tape.... ARGH!

Definitely a fair decision. There were two or three toss-up rounds but other than Round 4, Kinchen really didn't have many in the bag. I watched recently and had Hearns up by several.

Kinchen tested positive for the pain killer lidocaine in this fight.

Very close one, Hearns by a point or two was the consensus.
