That was the plan until very recently. Cano was like a one-week replacement for Crolla (who was the first choice of substitute when Matthysse pulled out with injury, as he'd been in talks for a meeting with Morales even earlier).

I'm not sure why they dropped Crolla to the non-PPV undercard and promoted Cano in his place. I think it may have been the WBC's decision so that Morales could be in with someone with a somewhat high ranking to justify having the vacant lightweight world title on the line..

Michael Marsden is having a wretched time trying to get Anthony Crolla to listen to him.

The kid just wants to bang, despite being ordered to box. :conf

This is actually a very good action fight, contested at an almost hypnotically steady clip.

It's one of those where powerful blows are constantly landing landed both ways and there's virtually no clinching - but someone could almost fall asleep to how monotonously good and evenly matched it is. :yep

They just turn and turn in the middle of the ring and trade shots. Nonstop. Neither ever really gets hurt. No drama and not much to be found between their work, although Crolla's is always just slightly better.

We're back to where the stream had previously joined the live bout in progress.

    Round 7.

    Bombs away.

It's a shame this was tucked away on the preliminary card. There were hardly any fans there.

With a full house and PPV-worthy atmosphere this could make for some spine-tingling viewing.

Montiel came to fight. He's not winning, but he's very competitive in these rounds.

    :thumbsup

It seems the right man won, and the one judge giving it to Montiel 5 rounds to 3 may have been a bit overly generous - but it was at least appropriately close to signify how neck and neck it was.

The commentator has a shutout for "Corolla", which could be argued with him shading most of them but I think the closer official judges' scores in his favor are a bit more on the money.

The Mancunian is going to go home knowing for damn sure he was in a real fight after his US debut (and first time outside the UK).

He may well be pissing blood next week (while Montiel will be lucky not to need facial surgery).

So will Papa, Roy, and Kellerman call the Canelo fight and undercard?

True, but Crolla would probably dominate (and maybe even stop) Cano.

Hell, Montiel might even be able to upset him.

I wonder why Beristan trains Montiel? He's a world class trainer..
