In Channel Five's defense, they did apologize profusely for it to those who lost their signal (and it wasn't everybody, just some areas I think). Also, would Sky have replayed a whole four rounds like that for the benefit of those who missed them on account of technical difficulties? I'm not so sure... Hell, they don't even show full undercard fights half the time - instead jumping around incessantly from round to round to pack in more commercials and still make sure they're in their time quota.
Roe, how were Floyd's defensive tactics "questionable"? I'm usually first to slate Floyd when he's a ****, but I really didn't have much of a problem with what he did last night.
Well I'm not hating on Floyd for this because he does it well and I'm not saying it's illegal. But most fighters wouldn't be quick or good enough to be able to use as many arms and elbows as he does. He's like Ganesh at times! Every time Ortiz got in close, Floyd would just shove his left elbow out and turn away. Like I say, nothing really wrong with that but I can see why opponents would get frustrated. It's questionable because he's only allowed to get away with it because he's a defensive boxer. I doubt Ortiz would've been allowed to constantly push and flick elbows out when he was on the front foot.
You have to question why, if Floyd was doing that, Ortiz didn't stop leaning on him on the ropes. He just smothers his own work. If he'd come in with a tight guard, low, and shot to the sides, Floyd's elbow wouldn't have been an issue. Don't think Ortiz had any reason to be upset. He was like a billy goat at times in close, rubbing the head into Mayweather's face.
Oh yeah I agree. Ortiz did himself no favours and can only blame himself really. I just think in general, the way Floyd defends with is elbows is a little dodgy. He does it well but that's just my opinion on it. Another thing that made me laugh was the way Michael Buffer tried bigging up Ortiz during the ring announcements. "He has one of the best knockout ratios in the world at welterweight in the history of all time" Umm no he doesn't :huh
Floyd looked good last night. But it was hardly ****in' Locche-Fuji was it? Get back to me when he takes on someone good.
how can any1 say there was nothing wrong with what Floyd done i don't know, basically had 2 free shots, how the **** is Cortez still being given there magnitude of fights i don't know. Ortiz was a dirty **** doing that headbutt and in a way deserved to get sparked but not in that way, cheap vitory for Floyd. i hope Laz is ok
i think he meants knockdown ratio, as everybody he fought up until last night he knocked down. as for the fight, sure it was controversial, but Floyd was gonna stop him sooner rather than later. that cortez fella needs a permanent chair in a nursing home though, he's ****ing useless. he doesnt let anybody fight on the inside, and as we all know, it favours an outside fight like Floyd (not that he needs any help, he's so good) they need to make Mayweather and Pacquaio now though, its now long overdue
There were some nice things, especially when you can see Floyd has slowed a bit. I was impressed at how physical he was and how willing he was to take advantage of Ortiz's flaws. Instead of pot-shotting, by the third he was punishing the younger man.
Bit of a ***** move by Mayweather last night IMHO. What he did was within the rules, "protect yourself at all times" etc but to seemingly accept Ortiz' apology and then clock him twice when Ortiz was resetting himself after apologizing was a ***** move IMHO even if it was within the rules of the game.
Some screws loose in Ortiz's head. Why did he need to start hugging and kissing Mayweather...and twice? Can't really fault Mayweather for what he did.
