How was Bruce Lee influential? Honestly can somebody give me an example of a direct influence he played on the sport? The only one I can think of A. Silva being a big fan but even then its not like he fights according to JDK.

MMA can directly trace its roots back to two things; the Brazilian fighting scene (Gracies, Vale Tudo, Luta Libre) and the Japanese shoot wrestling circuit (Karl Gotch, Billy Robinson, Antonio Inoki, UWF-I). From the former we eventually got the UFC and from the latter we got Pancrease, Rings and ultimately Pride.

There's no evidence for Bruce Lee having an influence on either which is why like most traditional martial arts JDK has been concispicous by its lack of application to MMA. I honestly believe you could make an argument for Street Fighter and Mortal Kombat having a greater direct impact than him.

 

Idiot Effective punching, clinch work, wrestling and JJ are evidenced in every single MMA card you will watch, Every single one. Jack was talking about combining these techniques together before Bruce was even born. As well as actually putting his ass on the line and fighting other fighters professionally
