Floyd Mayweather is representative of one of the chief reasons that I inhabit the world of the Classic forum...often at the whole expense of the current scene. I simply don't like mayweather, his personna, his actions, or anything else about him. His supporters can argue on about his merits and relative skills, they can even maintain...they can(!!)...about his superiority to other boxers, present and past (total bull****). His entire act..is demeaning to the great sport of boxing, and sort of mirrors the lack of class that typlifies the declining standards that we so readily accept as the norm today..not just in boxing, but in sports in general, showbiz types, politicians, etc.,..that bull**** scene of him confronting a 70 year old boxing commentator as he did..can you imagine even the most incendiary character of boxing 's past acting like that? Mayweather consistantly demonstrates that lack of class..the lack of discretion at every turn. I simply don't care about any of his fights..except for one, and that obviously being that inevitable showdown between him and his diatmetric , polar opposite, Manny Pacquiao, whom I hope thrashes him when they finally meet. Meanwhile, I continue to dwell in the Classic forum where the only Floyd I care to concern myself with is named Patterson..not Mayweather.

Sugar Ray Robinson was definitely much more of a shithead than Mayweather. Langford and Dempsey were into whoring. Louis was unfaithful to his wife, and beat her.

Mayweather's troubles and attitude are just so much more public.

 

I know he hasn't murdered anyone yet, lol...and there's nothing about Monzon's outside the ring personna that I like, though it's no surprise that I consider him the greatest middleweight champion of all time and one of the greatest fighters ever, period...but at least Monzon didn't communicate that thuggishness that he was capable of inside the ring..if anything he was a relatively clean, sportsmanlike fighter..he didn't engage in the type of cheap shots that Mayweather took last night. I prefer Monzon's cold aloofness to Mayweather's ghetto-thug behavior anytime.

 

**** Mayweather...he disgraces the sport that SRR, Dempsey and the others you mentioned graced.

 

Leonard's was a thoroughly likeable persona compared with Mayweather's..I wasn't his biggest fan, but I never had a problem accepting his greatness in the ring.

 

It's not like Pacquiao is the son of God reborn either. You should hear about some of the stories circulating about him and Cebu whores. He certainly isn't doing Jinkee any favors. The difference is he does it with a smile and the confused likability of a foreigner, and Mayweather does it with a faux rapper hood persona that you dislike as a conservative.

And yes, I also think Mayweather is infinitely more honest than Leonard. Except for one thing. His own internal emotionality, sensitivity, and demons. That he keeps inside.

 

Oh no,..you'll look in vain if you're seeking a simon-pure, boy scout figure among the greats of boxing's past. Monzon was a bully, not just to women, but anybody so unlucky to be in his path, Liston was a monster, Tyson mugged old ladies, Robinson performed abortions on his wife (allegedly), and outside of Floyd Patterson (a true anomaly in boxing) and guys like Tommy Loughran and Tiger Flowers, you'd be truly hard pressed to reconcile your admiration of certain great fighters and their out of the ring misdeeds and exploits..oh hell no, we're not boiling it down to moral judgements..you're quite right about that..it's just a personal thing on my part.
Yes, the difference that's easily percieved between Mayweather and Pac will be a huge selling point for their upcoming bout. In the ring as well as out of the ring differences..this fight will be HUGE...probably one of the biggest ever, even rivalling the FOTC, Ali-Frazier I.

 

That's a bit like looking at an attractive signboard on the highway that advertises a well known product..you may not be aware or even care about how ugly that signboard may look underneath the facade of that advertisement.
