Merchant won this altercation. Floyd and his goons looked like pricks trying to intimidate an old man.

 

I'm proud of Larry Legend. He makes no bones about not liking Floyd and why should he? He's allowed to have an opinion like everyone else.

Honesty is the best policy and Larry made it known he didnt think what Floyd pulled was becoming of someone who calls himself the "Greatest of All Time"

I think Merchant asked the tricky question and Floyd answered it. Then he watches the replay and Larry is PRAISING him when out of the blue, as if it's a delayed reaction to the previous question Mayweather goes on a ****ing unexplained tangent and makes a complete **** out of himself.

Merchant's reaction is pure gold, first he tells Floyd he'd kick his ass if he was half a century younger then he calmly continues and approaches Ortiz with some style considering what just happened.

Clown please. I am not racist. I would love for Larry to get in there and ask questions and not constantly detract from great fighters. Instead he picks favorites and constantly throws barbs as CERTAIN fighters. RJJ has called Larry on this. Antonio Tarver has called Larry on this. Now Mayweather. You noticing a theme here?

I don't care about Mayweathers' performance out of the ring. I care that Ortiz cheated, was told "Let's go!", and didn't protect himself. YDKSAB and it shows.

The funny thing is though, that at that point in the interview, Merchant was actually moving on and starting to compliment him before Floyd interrupted.

I mean look...you're on HBO. You just got paid $8million or whatever the **** to fight for 12 minutes. You KNOW what Larry Merchant is going to say because that's his job and because frankly, what you did was certainly arguable (although I think fair, but certainly the kind of ending that feels...unsatisfying).

And moreover...you know, there's kids watching this fight. Boxing at one point was a sport you could take your kids to, and look up to fighters. Guys like SRL, or Hagler, or DLH, or even Roy Jones...you can be cocky, but the way Floyd was acting was a flat out tantrum. And yelling at an old man like that, regardless of what he was saying, lacked class through and through.

I understand WHY he did it, and maybe he was just in the heat of the moment...but other fighters get asked tough questions and don't respond like that.

It makes me not want to see Mayweather fight again. It was a childish thing to do.

 

Is every commentator that never played the sport a clown? That's not an argument. Larry Merchant has been at more high-profile boxing matches than Floyd and his entire family.

It's not like Larry was questioning Floyd's balls in the ring. He was questioning a questionable (albeit fair) ending that people are going to talk about for awhile. That's the man's job.

Merchant doesn't even provoke Mayweather in the slightest. Screaming 'you aint ****' in an 80 yr old mans face :-( And look at Ellerbe wading in, that guy is ****ing creepy.

Floyd is clearly uncomfortable playing the bad guy, he seemed very emotional in the post fight conference for such a relatively short and easy fight, couldnt hold back the tears. The man has serious issues. Floyd aint a happy guy.

I blame Ortiz for ruining the fight though, that headbutt was a joke and he deserved to get knocked out, I can defend Floyd for that but whoever thought how he reacted to Merchant was acceptable/justified needs to fix up.

The whole event reminded me of the WWF I used to watch as a kid.

 

Merchant loves those guys for the same reason your dad loved Louie Armstrong.

Shane Mosley is a nice, humble guy who leaves it all in the ring and will fight anyone. Roy Jones milked HBO and fought nobodies when Merchant criticized him and Mayweather is a boring, arrogant fighter who refused to fight Margarito and refuses to fight Pacquiao.
