Larry Merchant is, and always has been, the s**t!

I don't understand how this is a racial issue.

People seem to be siding with either Mayweather or Merchant. I've always loved Larry Merchant, and have always had the utmost respect for Mayweather as a fighter. I really have no problem with Mayweather's attitude....I chalk it up to confidence and swagger.

Though Floyd DID duck Larry's question and may have been a bit disrespectful last night, Victor Ortiz is the only one who really did anything wrong.

Merchant owned Floyd end of story.
He is a legend and Floyd's embarrassing ownage on live TV will always be a part of this.

With Mayweather and Merchant it isn't really a case of "fault" - they just don't like each other.

If you listen to Merchant's words directly before Mayweather blew up, he wasn't actually in the middle of saying anything provocative. Of course, Mayweather was in a celebratory and emotionally charged mood and they sent the one guy that always poops at his parties and rains on his parade into the ring to interview him - and sure enough Merchant's overall tone was a bit glib and his questions focusing on negative aspects of what had transpired (asking Mayweather to address the hypothetical question that people might pose about him throwing a cheap shot, etc.) and Mayweather just snapped.

The fault was HBO's for knowingly putting the baking soda and vinegar together in that high school science fair volcano experiment - probably with the EXPECTATION that it would degenerate into just the sort of Jerry Springer sensationalism that it did.

Ya call Floyd's childish foot-stamping saying something to him?

How 'bout if he handled this way:

"Larry, Larry, Larry...anyone who KNOWS boxing knows: Protect yourself at all times. His bad, not mine. Now I have an after party to attend "

There is no fault at all... it made for great Boxing and TV.

The whole thing was good for boxing.... it's all over the news and on the front page of CNN. Most of the time big fights hardly get a mention in the sports section.

Perhaps ESB should petition The Boston Globe.

Mayweathers last fights was a win over his wife and over Cortiz in a cowardly bar-assault.

Then we should aspect him to fight Pac next....................but who does he calls out then - his father and old Merchant...................:-:)-(

So what? He's not some boxing tough guy. He's an announcer. He doesn't have to criticize fighters and then "say it to their face."
