I haven't seen that much excitement in boxing and that many casual fans getting involved in a long time

If you want people to confuse boxing with WWE you're right.

He's a superb talent, ruining it all with the bull**** that surrounds his fights. This doesn't promote boxing. This has boxing labelled around the world as "another black eye for boxing", "big boxing fight again ends in controversy" etc.

    excitement?
What is so exciting about mayweather? I thought the Ortiz fight was a really good fight until the intentional headbutt, kissing+hugging, dropping of hands, an incompetent referee, and no I don't really blame mayweather for taking a cheap shot for the win.

If you like controversy just go watch WWF. This is boxing. A fighter who thinks he is above everyone else in boxing...:-(

I agree with this. Boxing is the sweet science it shouldnt be reduced to cheap shots and anything dramatic is ok. What Floyd did was legal, but it was not what you want to see from a guy whos considered the best. He could have beat him with his skills, he was beating him, but he consciously decided to hit a fighter that was completely defenseless. Not a whole lot different than hitting a fighter when hes down. That said, the headbutt by Ortiz was also not called for and unsportsmanlike.

Well he is cleaning up the sport of dam ass kissers thats for sure ..I don't know about you but the nice guy act that Mosley put on against Manny was more sickening than this imo ..You need to have that attitude in this business ..It creates real animosity ..

Makes for more compellling fights ..Floyd is getting villafied for retaliating after getting head butted ..I don't understand the logic !Floyd hits him with gloves Ortiz hits him with his head and Mayweather is the dirty one :huh

It's not good for the sport when everybody watching it walks away going "what a crock of **** that was".

what are the chances of them ever, ever coming back again? Virtually nil.

You've got to ask, are these people watching boxing, or sucked in to some bull**** with floyd, and watching a personality?

If it's a personality, once that person isn't around, those 'casual' fans won't watch boxing at all. That's the last thing you want.

I assume you're talking about the US as well, because here in Australia apart from boxing fans, the fight was pretty low key to be honest. Floyds' gangsta act just doesn't draw any attention over here.

    :think

What??? You mean Australians aren't into a self promoting, narcissistic loud mouth, what a surprise??? Not many Americans are into that either, which is why the Pretty One was basically crying "love me, love me, America"... :rofl:rofl:rofl

When Floyd fights casuals watch. You think when Floyd retires people will watch Bradley, Berto, Williams, or Ward? The answer is no. I'm sure yesterday was the first time 90% of PPV buyers saw Ortiz fight.
