Change of heart regarding Floyd Mayweather

    Many of you who post reguarly on here will know I am, have been a huge Floyd Myaweather fan.

    Before I go into detail I think its worth pointing out that

    • I still think Mayweather is a competative fight for anyone between 130-147lbs in history.
    • I still think he would beat Pacquiao and anyone at 154lbs convincingly should that meet.
    • I still think he is the number 1 P4P fighter in the world right now
    • I still think he gets a hard ride from allot of fans on this forum.
    • The fact he hasn't faced everyone he should have throughout his career is not entirly down to Mayweather (Notably Casamayor at 135 and Cotto at 140)
    • I do not think the Ortiz fight should be changed to a No Contest and feel Ortiz was a decent calibre of opponent.
    • He has been fighting at world level for 16 years which commands respect.
    • Its crazy for anyone to expect him to fight Sergio Martinez.
    • I don't buy the arguement about him fighting smaller men as he came up from 130 and always outweighed on fight night.
    • De La Hoya was a very good win
    But I think we are at the point where enough is enough with Mayweather. Its time to back up his actions. There is a fight out there in Pacquiao which would cement his legacy as a trully elite fighter that he claims to be. Win that and you have earned your place in history by fighting the toughest challenge and not making the most cash.

    In terms of his personality and actions. They leave allot to be desired. I used to think it was an act but now I think it has crossed over. The guy is a class a dick. The way he acted during the interview while getting asked questions we genuinley wanted to know was a complete joke.

    Merchant does need to get fired though! he is shocking.

    Thought Merchant did his job, he wasn't really provoking Floyd, just not letting him off the hook. Floyd himself is just a very proud, over-emotional guy. Even he knew that he took a cheap shot at Ortiz, whether the young man deserved it or not. He needed to answer for it.

    The moment when Floyd started hyping in a Elderly man's face if you watch Larry didn't do anything to have that sorta response. Floyd's insecure and paranoid IMO and from what i just read his Uncle's saying he ain't fighting Pacquiao next.

    The other day was the first time i never got up for a Mayweather fight. I actually only got myself up in round 3 IIRC. I just lost interest in him he's not in love with the sport and uses it. For me when you use the sport like he does i lose respect because to many this sport is there life.

    yep he wasn't asking anything that didn't need answering however there is a skill to interviewing. You would have thought Merchant would know how to deal with a fighters ego by now.

    same here. since i have been into boxing i have stayed up and watched every mayweather fight. this time i watched in the morning but mostly just text me girlfriend throughout lol

    Why is it crazy to expect him to face Martinez if Sergio agrees to some kind of catchweight?
    Martinez has said he would come down to 154lbs for Pacquiao,Cotto or Mayweather and seeing as Mayweather won a World title at JMW I fail to understand why its crazy.

    Mayweather is a Welterweight. If he was to fight Martinez even at 154lbs come fightnight the weight difference would be close to 20lbs. Its to unfair even at 154lbs.

    If Martinez genuinley wants that fight come back to 154lbs and pick up a title.

    Unless Mayweather moved to 154lbs you cannot ask him to fight there.

    Maybe the whole point isnt to deal with a fighters ego. Let them show there true colours. he wants people ot see what Floyd Mayweather is really like.

    Didnt stop him fighting De La Hoya for a 154lb title.Or is that okay because Oscar was past his best and most know Martinez would be a very difficult fight?
    Mayweather says hes an ATG.Says hes the greatest ever to put on a pair of gloves so whats the problem?Size never bothered Duran.

    You can't say he will beat anyone up to 154 and then say he shouldn't fight Martinez.

    Putting on weight between the weight on and fight night is unfortunately part of the sport.

    I don’t think he did anything wrong though. He’s a journalist, not a cheerleader, so he asks questions in provocative ways. Why should he “handle” Floyd?

    I don’t like Ortiz, think he was a negligible threat and Floyd took advantage of his idiocy to end the fight. I don’t have a problem with Floyd doing it really, but he does need to justify why he responded that way in a fight he was winning easily.

    That was all Merchant was asking him. In fact, he was in the process of giving Floyd credit when Floyd went off the deep end. It was just weird.

    Ok, Larry went a little far, but when a 34-year old professional fighter squares up to an octogenarian, you have to really ask what Floyd’s problem is. Larry didn’t back down, he should be praised for that. The guy’s a legend.

    Martinez would out weigh him by 20lbs but so what? Victor Ortiz was 14lbs heavier than him on Saturday.Antonio Margarito was 16lbs heavier than Manny Pacquiao but its fine against those guys because they are cherry picked.

    I 100% agree! Particularly with the last paragraph. Floyd doesn't mind getting into the face of an 80 year old journalist, but won't get in Pacquiao's face. Real tough
