i like merchant. i will admit he has with old age developed a very slow delivery and some of his jokes can be painful and he knows boxing and when he doesnt have an opinion in the way he is fine

excluding the recent interview he usually asks the tough questions

Theres times I used to like Larry because he just was funny when he comes off as a drunk, old, senile guy.... that goofy stupid **** eating grin he gives the camera after giving a drawn out speech where he says one word every two seconds, and even jim has the look of 'wtf are you saying' smile as hes looking at him....

but I cant stand him anymore, the way he treats fighters is just absurd. And also, I think he makes boxing look bad a little. I dont mind if they keep him around for B.A.D cards and whatnot, but to put him on boxing events, the biggest fights of the year and whatnot, just makes boxing look bad imo.

Anyways, I hope this was his last big fight.

What tough questions was he asking Ortiz? He was lobbing him softballs and making excuses for him.

So his lying and lack of boxing knowledge is not sugar coating anything?

So when Manny discuss how a fighters tactics are effecting a fight, and Larry Merchant in comparison just calls the guy an *******, that is why you like him?

You basically want Howard Stern as a commentator in a sport?

Should Al Michaels just talk **** about NFL players the whole game, you know, to not sugar coat anything?

When has Larry Merchant displayed anything but a casual knowledge of boxing?

Go watch all the fights last night, and watch what Manny Steward says is happening, then watch what Larry Merchant says is happening.

See who has it right when the fight is over, and who is wrong.

Hell watch the Vargas Josilito fight where Merchant is jacking off and Joselitos pressure and Manny points out that Vargas is landing more punches and is workrate is winning him the fight and see what hissy fit Merchant has.

Larry Merchant simply calls it as it is, period.

People mention how he has blasted Bernard Hopkins in the past. He has, but it was appropriately done at the time and done for the right reasons. Nobody seems to recall the Hopkins-Trinidad fight when Larry clearly became fed up with George Foreman for not giving Hopkins credit for his masterful performance that night. Larry was the first one to point out what was unfolding, and he expressed a good amount of disgust towards big George for making excuses for Trinidad and overlooking Hopkins' brilliance all night long.

    Right on David.

Larry is a reporter, reporting on the incidents of the night.

To pretend that there was no inference that Floyd's action smacked of a little cheapness kind of ignores how it seemed half the arena was booing Floyd as soon as the interview started - Larry clearly phrased the question "What do you say to those people who might say it was a cheap shot?"

Floyd has been doing this for 15 years as a pro - Surely by now a little Q&A session is the least of his concerns - I guess when you're surrounded by a team that are all blue in the face from sucking his balls the whole time - As soon as someone asks a question its a racist or lack of a fair shake?

Compare Larry to Jim Grey - it's night and day in the difference in the way they interview post fight.

What about the Hopkins vs Tarver fight where Merchant exclaimed "Whens the fight gonna start, Im falling asleep"

It was like the 1st or 2nd round when Hop and Tarver were just feeling eachother out. As most fights go. The fight ended up being pretty exciting.

Tell me, is that the promotion boxing needs? A senile old **** who isnt about the sweet science?

So Merchant wasnt trashing Mayweather the entire night?

Maybe its because im a Floyd fan, but before the fight when I hear Merchant saying "Floyd isnt fighting anyone tonight, its an easy pick"

    I get kinda pissed?

Do you think Floyd got pissed at Larry because of what transpired in the fight? Or because he was in the locker room pre-fight and heard Larry trashing him?

Larry Merchant is a POS who has disrespect the greatest fighters of this era like PBF, Hopkins, and RJJ time and time again. Enough is enough both Hopkins and PBF have complained about Merchant not giving them their due. It was only a matter of time before one of them went off.
