I collected the winnings from the bets I made so you damn right I will enjoy this hollow victory. Ask the question. Please do. But asking the same question like 4 times. I don't know about you, but a lot of people in the world don't like to repeat themselves more than once let alone 4 times. Go ask someone the same question 4 times and you can't tell me that they wouldn't give you that irritated "WTF" look. Its human nature. And then you add in that Merchant and Floyd don't really care for each other. Recipe for fireworks.
Yeah Merchant deserved that, he has been a pain in the arse of Mayweather for years. Like him or loath him, Floyd is damn good at what he does
You're one of the best boxers ever, undefeated, and you have some commentator criticising you after every match, attempting to disminish your legacy. Shocking that PBF got a little pissed.
To be fair, I don't think either man came away with too much glory after the interview.......both men lost their cool, and it does look bad when someone shouts down a man 50 or so years his senior......especially in cultures where they are taught to respect their elders. Not a good night or advert for boxing really, and both men are to blame.
I think there is resentment on the part of Floyd Mayweather Jr and his fans, and it's all because Larry Merchant isn't in awe of him or his skills. Larry Merchant is sent to the ring to query the fighters on the fight itself and their future plans, and that's all he's ever really done. He asks straight-forward questions in a direct manner, and he gives every fighter, Floyd included, ample time to respond. That's how grown men discuss matters. I remember after Floyd Mayweather Jr dismantled Diego Corrales in one-sided fashion, Floyd was calling out Hamed in the post-fight interview. Larry responded, "After seeing this Floyd, Hamed ain't going to want to fight you". That was a great compliment, and this all from a man who's supposedly a racist.
My biggest problem with Larry that night was he didn't have a problem with the headbutt. He never asked Ortiz about it. Like Steve Kim said the people who thought Mayweather landed a cheap shot probably got happy when he got butted.
You can't tell me that when you saw that interview it didn't seem strange. It was the first time during a Larry Merchant interview that I thought he was trying to provoke a reaction. Especially when we know how Floyd is. I've never seen him ask another boxer the same question 4 times. Lets be real.
As A fan of this sport, I am sick and tired of how some people want to use any opportunity to destroy any unity among our citizens, Whether Merchant is a bigot. racist. or just hates PBF is not the issue. The issue is in his position he has consistently been negative and mean spirited when it came to any Matweather victories. His purpose has been to ignore a mans accomplishments because he doesnt like him and can do what he does without his superiors reviewing his behaviours, What he he did and said to Floyd should get him fired or at the least taken off the show. Remember we are more powerful together if we band together and call out the wrongs when they occur. Otherwise it will continue!
Larry was forced to re-word the same question multiple times because Floyd was doing everything in his power to avoid the issue. Floyd knew that what he did wasn't all that honourable, but he should have just come out and said the truth. "Ortiz hit me with a dirty shot so I thought, **** it, you gonna get some payback. Payback's a *****." That was his thought-process at the time of the stoppage, let's be honest. Besides, Merchant was already in the process of giving Floyd his much needed credit when he started kicking off, shouting "You ain't ****. HBO should fire you". Floyd doesn't want to have to answer difficult questions, he just wants a 'yes man' to come and tell him how great he looked. Larry ain't that guy.
Immediately after Floyd KOed Ortiz Larry said, This content is protected The problem for Floyd is that Larry does not kiss his infantile spoiled punk ass and let him have his way. He asks him tough (real!) questions. Mayweather reacted like a typical punk because he is used to his posse of parasitic yes men. Merchant is a journalist not a yes man on Floyd's payroll.
Is that a direct quote? I didn't get HBO's commentary. If it is a direct quote then Floyd's fans who criticise Merchant for never giving their boy credit no longer have a leg to stand on.
And I already answered you.v 1. Merchant ain't no damn journalist.:nono 2. He seems to have a real hard time asking your avatar tough questions. Why is that? This content is protected
