Not deduct a point for floyd fighting after telling both fighters to fight?

He had no control of what was happening in the ring after it was obvious things were getting crazy.

He should have had Mayweather go to the neutral corner and stay there while he took a point from Ortiz, told the timekeeper time in, then instructed them to fight and then Mayweather would leave his corner.

Cortez is a bad ref and that whole sloppy mess is partly his fault imo.

I don't disagree necessarily, but he told them to fight then was speaking to the time keeper but that isn't that uncommon, he could have handled it better but essentially it doesn't matter. IMO.

Well I dont think anything illegal or wrong happened.... but Im just saying, if that situation wanted to be avoided, Cortez should have handled it better.

As it is, it happened, it was legal, and I have no problem with it.

    He made two mistakes:

1: Not saying "box" but rather "Let's go." - although it was still clear what he meant. I'm not sure what the official rule is on this.

2: Immediately looking away from the fighters. I believe he was checking to make sure the time keeper started the clock, but it was a stupid move, and it may have contributed to Ortiz' confusion about whether the fight had started again.

Still, that's no excuse for Ortiz's blatant fouls or his incredible stupidity in the middle of the ring.

If he told the timekeeper to start the fight while the fighters were in their nuetral corners, how is he looking away to check or tell the timekeeper to start the clock when mayweather punches ortiz.

Bayless would have had both fighters in nuetral corner, done what he needed to do, then bring them to the center of the ring and instruct them to fight and then be focused on the action that is happening. Cortez, didnt. He wasnt even looking at the damn fighters by the time they went back to fighting.

    But Ill rewatch it.

Nothing, Punk ass Ortiz is to blame for everything he tried to play dirty and Floyd retaliated with in the rules.

He should have been more clear, grabbed both fighters pulled them together, gave the speech about keeping it clean, then said "box!"

A normal, non ******ed ref prolly would have done this, probably would have prevented what happened

Been watching fights very long? It's the refs job to, you know, watch the fighters.
