you gotta think Top Rank the biggest promoter in the world have been doing independent PPV's for year. However the major difference is that this is for the smaller show and the major events our supported by a network like HBO.

TR is also very good at targeting its fighters' natural demographics - I don't think it makes many losses on these shows. It covers costs from the live gate and boosts revenue from PPV.

Won't happen because if Boxnation pays the fee the to broadcast on Sky Platform, there ain't a single thing they can do about it.

Sky cannot restrict a competitor's advertising UNLESS it contravenes the advertising standards. They also cannot refuse access to their platform UNLESS the content is illegal, unsavoury or violates copyright in some way.

Also, why would they care? It's a low audience share thing for them and causes them more bother than it's worth. This way they make money from the license fee and if it's PPV they get a cut of that too.

 

I'd consider myself a fairly casusal fan and I wont be paying **** all for Boxnation or for any of Frank ******'s PPV **** cards.

I haven only paid for 1 or 2 Froch fights on Primetime and Primetime needs to improve before charging the same as SKY.

I will watch all free boxing and I watch alot more MMA now, never used to watch MMA but since Its only a £10 a month with no hidden extras, ie PPV on top and there is alot of UFC events and other Sports, its a good deal.

this could destroy boxing further and make it even more of a business...shame!

Maybe not in this instance because of the circumstances you pointed out correctly, but if they really wanted to, anything is possible. I gleaned this from the 6 years i spent studying law. Loopholes exist man, EVERYWHERE!

 

Remember on ringside a few weeks back where they did they short interview with all the promoters about the new season and ****** was one of them.

Ah, but News Corp doesn't outright own Sky - although it did try, obviously! Sorry, I don't mean to sound patronising - I just finished writing an internal paper on this very topic for a big media company.

Put it this way, there are other companies who are VERY interested in using Sky as a platform, possibly competing with its existing services.

If I remember right, Sky need to maintain neutrality if it wants to keep the free-to-air channels like BBC and ITV. That said, it's already been censured by OfCom for its non-competitive pricing:

So if Sky DID try to restrict someone else, it would be in a very difficult situation with the current crackdown on the media.

For once, the business of the sport is more interesting than the sport, IMO!
