or else tell me who you think would win some kind of tournament involving:

    Victor Galindez
    Mike Rossman
    Yaqui Lopez
    Eddie Mustafa Muhammad
    Mathew Saad Muhammad
    Marvin Johnson
    Mate Parlov
    John Conteh
    Dwight Quawi
    James Scott

All of them in their primes, please. I am purposely ommitting Michael Spinks, because I think the consensus is that he was the best, but if you disagree, say who you think on the list might've beaten him prime for prime? Man, those were great times for that division. You could throw in Jerry Martin, too.

Saad was the greatest out of those.

I would go with Quawi myself, with Saad probably number 2.

A lot say that but Saads resume at 175 is much deeper, and was in the thick of it right at it's best.

Qawi beat a faded Saad conclusively twice. But as I say, Saad has much more depth and faced better versions of the cream of the crop IMO.

I would rank Victor Galindez higher than the others.

this is one era i am far too ignorant in but is fascinating to me, the best period for 175 after the 50s with moore/charles/johnson. based on my limited knowledge

    Tier 1:
    Saad
    Qawi

    Tier 2:
    Galindez

    Tier 3:
    Conteh
    Eddie Mustafa

I know a lot of you will disagree, but I think there's a period where James Scott was the best in the world.

I think he got disillusioned when he realized that it just wasn't ever going to happen, that they would never let him out on furlough to Atlantic City to fight for the title. Yes, Martin and Qawi beat him, but I don't think he was the same guy when he fought them that he was when he was trying to prove something.

That aside, Saad has to rank above the rest on accomplishment. He was at the end of it after a lot of brutal wars when Qawi caught up to him -- 3 years earlier I think he chews Qawi up and spits him out.

    I'd say based on accomplishment:

    Saad
    Galindez
    Qawi
    Scott
Eddie MM (what a waste of talent, no drive or discipline)
    Johnson
    Lopez

The rest in a lump below that IMO

Greatest collection of guys in that particular division at one time ever, IMO, and arguably one of the best collections of guys in any division at the same time ever. Made for some great fights.

Qawi would have beaten all of those listed. He beat a few of them anyway and never lost to anyone on the list.

Galindez is the most accomplished of the lot alongside Saad Muhammad. Head to head it's a tough call, but I'd be more inclined to favour Conteh on that count.

The Galindez/Conteh/3 Muhammads debate is actually quite interesting because the two guys with the most talent (in my opinion) accomplished the least while the two guys with the least talent accomplished the most. Braxton is the guy stuck in the middle.

Very interesting, guys. I knew this would be tight. I know Quawi came a long later, but his 4-0 mark against the others impresses me. Galindez had too many controversial wins. And I know he was pretty spent, but it's hard for me to pick Saad after seeing Dwight pummel him twice. But it's the situation that you can make a strong case for several of these guys.
