How Did Barrera Manage to Get a Rematch with pac?

Rematch clauses expire way before 4 years. They fought because it was a good payday for Manny and easily the biggest payday available for Barrera. Yes, Manny could have fought Guzman, Soto, etc., but Manny wasn't seen as this invincible fighter yet. He was a top fighter just like every other top fighter. He had to hold out and take a fight people could accept before he got the second Marquez fight and went on to bigger things. If he fought a nobody in Soto or Guzman and lost, it would be hugely detrimental.

Barrera = low risk, high reward

 

It should be noted that the winner of JMM vs MAB was promised the Pacquiao fight by GBP........instead, Pacquiao decided to take on the loser.:nut

 

He took on the winner right afterwards. No big deal.

 

Act of goodwill between GBP and Top Rank. Neither Barrera or Pac cared about this fight, and the fight itself showed that.

 

Well it is a big deal because Pacquiao had no intention of fighting Marquez right after or ever.

In the negotiations for the Marquez-Pac rematch, Pacquiao offered Marquez less than 25% of the purse split. Basically offering Marquez a sum meant to be rejected.
To make a long story short, Arum was about to announce Pacquiao's move up to fight David Diaz at 135 lbs, when Marquez went public and stated "I'm accepting every Pacquiao stipulation. I'll fight Pacquiao at the ridiculous terms he set."

Even under those terms, Pacquiao would not have accepted a Marquez rematch had in not been for the boxing fan pressure Pacquiao felt to make the Marquez rematch.
Pacquiao's own website, "pacland" was heavily criticizing Pacquiao for turning away from the Marquez fight when it looked like he would fight Diaz.
......because of this pressure, Pacquiao finally accepted and signed to fight Marquez.

 

I still don't see it as that big of a deal. More of Arum's crap. I definitely understand it being seen as a big deal, but he fought and won. He tried to run, got cornered, and won the fight. (even if it was controversial) Regardless of circumstances, he still fought the winner.

Never knew any of that, though. Doesn't make Manny look any better in the current scene.

 

Actually Pacquiao fought Marquez and got the official judges decision.
I dont consider a fighter really a winner when the majority of fans and boxing journalist thought he lost.

 

Because of clowns who said the result of the first fight was a fluke due to the fire in Barrera's camp.

Pac haters love to claim he ducked Guzman and Valero, that crazy Azteca guy claims he ducked Soto, but why didn't Marquez fight them?
Marquez was champion in the same division as them, at super feather and lightweight.
