I get Setanta Ireland for free so I dont have a sub with them. Like I get ESPN free since they started with UPC. It wont be on my platform so I will look at it other ways if it is a good fight. Like with the premier and khan fights I only have my Sky sub now since I have been out of work. Its the wrong time to be doing something like this. People are finding it hard to pay there bills another boxing station pops up I dont think there will be many takers for it to work out. £10 so how much extra will they add to that for there Irish subs. I would be expecting something around the 15 to 18 for this on top of your subs now.
http://www.grantland.com/story/_/id/6983512/hagler-vs-leonard A good read on the Leonard - Hagler fight, not Irish boxing related but nevertheless.
My first response to this Box nation was that it will fail. But on reflection and considering the big players involved and the risks they're taking with their businesses and reputations [particularly W@rren who might now have finally burnt his bridges with Sky], I'm not so certain anymore. If this is a success W@rren will have to run more shows and with the Irish stable he's amounting, he could even run some shows in Ireland. I don't mind paying £10 for a time to give it a chance and I would say that there will be thousands like me.
I will be paying the sub for it anyway. Fwank isnt stupid, hes been the premier promoter in Britain for some time. He knows just his cards wont be enough. Its been stated that only half the fights will be from the UK and hes got a deal with Sauerland. He must have sounded out American promoters already as well. As people on the Brit forum have pointed out , Fwanks next 2 big cards are the same nights as Dawson-Hopkins and Paquiao-Marquez. Even without the big cards theres cracking cards from South America nearly every week that would cost a pittance for him to buy the rights. Even if it is 16 euro a month, thats still just one less pint a week or one less magazine a week. Give me a choice between buying boxing news and reading bout boxing or actually watching boxing I know which one Ill be doing
I dont trust Frank. Right he will take your subs off you but whats stopping him from charging a extra £15 ppv charge on some of his fighters World title fights as well? With Sky you know what your getting they would of had a set amount of PPVs every year say 4 or 6 at the peak. Now whats stopping ****** making DeGale v Grooves 2 on PPV on his boxnation. Will people still be happy paying the £10 plus the extra charge for the fight. There is no one on ******s stable that is PPV quality in my view. Regarding Irish shows yes it would be brilliant if he brought shows over here he has enough Irish fighters to do a bill here and to be honest I am shocked he hasnt done a bill in Dublin yet. With Dean Byrne and Ormond they could sell well and would maybe sell out the National stadium if both were on the same card at ease. Saying that Byrne has yet to fight on a ****** bill yet so he cant really sell that to the average fans over here. Also with him now off Sky it will make it harder for him to sell the fights. Most of us on the board will go but it would be a hard sell to other sport fans.
No chance, i saw Byrne fight in the basketball arena when he last fought there and was at Ormonds last fight in the stadium on the Hyland show and both venues were a long, long way from being sold out. The average punter hasn't a clue who either guy is and that situation wont improve with them hidden away on a subscription channel that only hardcore boxing fans get. I wonder how many people in ireland will end up subscribing to this in total? My guess is it could be as low as a 1000 people so it will be very hard for any irish boxer to build a fanbase if thats the case. If you think about it really outside of the guys who built their names on the rte fights the only irish fighters that have become known by fighting on sky are the prizefighter winners, Big Bang and Rogie.
dont see y they dont try run more shows below in neptune in cork the last one the night of the undefeatededs was packed with spike ormonde byrne with VVarren mabye he'd consider having a show down here if the get them the cubans (if they'd fight) and casey and levan on the show it could be good
what way will it work if a fighter sky hyped to the hilt and backed wants to fight a ****** fight.. can ******'s fighter fight on Sky at certain times? or?
From the statement on his site they will all be on Boxnation. So all the work Sky have done in hyping up those fighters now will be a waste. Frank wont let Sky have any of his fighters it will be interesting to see how the bids on fights goes with the rival promotors. How much will a promotor want the fight on there platform be it Sky or Boxnation so for those British fights depending on who wins the purse bids will get the tv coverage.
