Duran's animal intensity combined with the perfect blend of his sublime defensive skill will beast Chavez anywhere from 132~140. He might have a chance at 147 a 30% chance IMO. Chavez looks almost stiff at times, Duran can flow with the punches while he keeps the agressiveness to a high point.
I hope you dont mean Chavez has a chance at 147? Chavez was past his best by the time he started fighting there and was clearly not the same fighter...Duran would **** him up at that weight big time, especially if the Duran of the Palomino and first SRL fights shows up.
Im sorry i have not been a big Chavez follower, but Duran did slow up a bit when he moved to welter (post SRL Duran) also, he didnt train as hard for fights and lost some focus, I gave Chavez that chance taking these things into account..But if Chavez was not in his prime at 147 then you're right he would get brutally destroyed.
Yeah, Chavez was never great at that, and when i think of Duran at 147lbs, i think of the one who faced SRL, who was a monster.

Wanted to fight toe to toe to prove that he can fight as well as be slick. Even Angelo Dundee complained about SRL mentality before the fight
Two great warriors of all the times. Duran has a mexican blood but I think Chavéz had a better skills boxing than Duran. Anyway both of them are among the best fighters of the world in a all the whole time.
Duran by close decision in one of the best fights of all time, not a lot between them IMO but Duran was naturally a bit bigger & had better 1 punch power which would give him the edge in a back & forth war on the scorecards.
On their best nights vs each other the 147 lb Duran loses to Robinson, Hearns & Leonard... I`d also give Benitez & Whitaker a solid shot but not necessarily make them favourites over Duran. Chavez was never any good at 147, a JCC-Duran fight is best at 135.
Yep, I agree. Duran is overrated on here & Chavez is underrated... both are 2 of my favourite fighters so thats not a biased opinion.
masamune i did say in my original post that n o boxder in history can touch duran at 135 pounds,ken buchanan whom duran won the lightweight title from said he wishes hed had duran drug tested as he was hammering away relentless all night?????????????i think he was just a natural beast.
At 135lbs it would be a great match up. Both were beasts at the weight, but as i said, Duran would ultimately come out victorious. And Chavez is my favorite fighter of all time. Duran is prob my 2nd.
most experts agree roberto duran is the greatest latino boxer ever to walk this planet.chavez is a very very close second,then u got lots of greats after them eg monzon etc etc
