Did he say that? He wasn't doing a bad job of using it against Gomez

    Chavez, Canto, Barrera etc did/do.

Interesting prospect though, I remember de la Hoya using it against Vargas, Campas etc and thinking to myself "what on earth?" That being said good luck to the kid for trying to become a more versatile fighter.

I thought his transition from defense to offense wasnt seemless. Good to see he is a student of the game :good

Saul needs to learn some English and Ebonics to get with a Slick Black American Style trainer. I could already tell he watches Mayweather tape when I saw him from early on.

I saw this too when I noticed he laid off the aggression and began potshotting and using the shoulder roll for a while. Needs some polishing but he can get effective at it

    It wasn't working against Gomez.

While I believe that is the ideal fighting stance for every fighter, not everyone is nearly fast or smart enough to actually pull it off.

I remember hearing the commentators say he fights more like an "American" than he does Mexican.

well you should also be quite flexible and I don't think that Canelo can really master it. He's time for experiments is running out though soon he will have to test himself against real fighters

He isnt very good at it based on how he did vs gomez, its good that he wants to improve his defense though.

I certainly hope hes not doing it for that reason and that reason alone. There are certainly other ways to improve ones defence and Mexico has a rich tradition among its top boxers of defending with parrys and blocks. If of course he's looking to train with trainers who specialise in defending out of that sort of shell and then attack or counter out of it then I think its a brilliant idea, if hes doing it because he thinks he can copy the likes of Mayweather and Toney from tapes or because he had a five minute chat or training session with them, then I'd be worried. All it takes is him not being able to roll that left shoulder at the right time, or not parry and check his chin with the right hand, then hes majorly ****ed against some sort of Angulo or Kermit Cintron Mark II.
