So if left hook was a sucker punch why not block the right?

Explain Ortiz looking over at the ref after Floyd landed the hook? Basics insticts of any kind of fighter would be to avoid the next punch, throw back or at a min not look away

It's called the flight or Fight theory and Ortiz was ready to go back to that "cool hotel" he was so excited about.

Mayweather: Everythings different on this level. Seems Ortiz got caught up in the glam of the event, the nice hotel, limo ride "never rolled in a limo like this before"

Some would say Ortiz was too stunned to realise what was going on after the left hook.

Others would say that Ortiz was looking for a way out by letting himself get hit hard.

Il say that Ortiz is an idiot, he had the time to put his hands up but he didnt.

Maybe it shocked him because he wasnt ready for the punch.. so he was stunned! Have you ever been sucker punched by an elite pro boxer?

Boxers have the best peripheral vision in the world u can look forward and still know what's going on beside you.

Remember Floyd doesn't hit heard he clearly looked over at the ref after the first punch landed.

that left stunned him and he then was not thinking straight to block the right. Someone posted a similar situation with Mosley, but with Mosley you can see that when Floyd throws the left on the break or near it, Mosley is blocking it with his right. Floyd also saw how Ortiz was not expecting the left at all so he threw it especially hard.

When I get hit with a punch, my first reaction is to put my hands up or duck.

What up Round1?.... Man I am pretty sure a lot of people on ESB have never *wrecked* before - whether in the streets or sparring or in ring - so when you make intelligent statements like the one I bolded above, you have to undestand that it wont make sense to people who have never been involved with these types of things.

*Wrecked* is DC slang for fight for anyone who didn know

Victim-Complex Ortiz was floored by Floyd's rudeness in throwing that hook. Then he got knocked down and out by the right. (floored in a different sense!)

As far as Ortiz was concerned, the fight hadn’t resumed and May wasn’t going to hit him. And when May did hit him with the left, his immediate reaction was to look for Cortez to do his job. He didn’t think that it would then followed up with another sucker punch, because, still being under the impression time was out, he thought Cortez would leap to calm things down. That obviously didn’t happen.

It was a combination of Ortiz’ naivety and the referee’s unprofessionalism.

most fighters after getting hit with an illegal blow will turn to the ref

    just somethin i've noticed
when andre dirrell was hit on the break by froch, he turned away and complained to the ref
when manny pacquiao was hit on the break vs barrera he turned and walked away

Yeah you do make sense here but once again as the OP said, any fighter who wasn't looking for a way out would have did something after the 1st puch other than just look at the ref.

And after looking at the fight again this weekend, I think mayweather's only intention was to to just catch him with the left hook (for a little payback from the headbutt) but when he noticed that Victor didn't cover up he took advantage of him being open

But nonetheless I agree with your post (wel at least the part I highlighted)
