ortiz is an idiot! young hungry lion my ass! more like young and dumb with no heart! when he got hit with the first sucker punch, he looked at the ref to jump to his aid.

He didn't looked at the ref, the punch turned his head and made it look like that, but he was lost (he never looked at Cortez). If he looked at the ref, why he didn't made a gesture or said something?

 

Because they have never boxed before. ****, I question how many of these guys have even been in a street fight before based on their comments.

Actually, if you watched episode 5 of 24/7, Garcia gave Ortiz TERRIBLE, and I mean ABSOLUTELY TERRIBLE ADVICE I would never give a fighter: "If he counters, you don't need to worry because he doesn't hit hard." WTF KIND OF ADVICE WAS THAT?!??!?!

Punches hurt! Especially ones that land clean. I don't give a **** how tough you think you are.

 

True "Box" or "fight". No one (well at least not me) is saying that Cortez was on his A game that night but he did say "lets go" amd pulled was motioning for both fighters in the middle of the ring.

If Ortiz didn't know it was time to fight, he wouldn't have tried to hug Mayweather (again!). So yes Cortez should have handled it better, but that doesn't excuse Ortiz' mistake. Just my thoughts

 

Hmm :think. I'm not so sure. I've only watched the fight the once, but I don't remember him attempting that headbutt three times. Rubbing his head to Floyd's face in response to the elbows that were being rubbed into his, yes, but no actual crazy headbutts like in the fourth. He was just trying to make it a street brawl, but went overboard with it. And I don't remember him being hurt, either. He was on the end of some right hands, which was inevitable, but he wasn't being rocked by them.

You're a good poster Rico, trust me, watch the fight at least 2-3 more times. I didn't notice some of them the first time either. Watch for Ortiz to use his legs to spring into Mayweather. Only difference is he left his feet on the final foul which made it obvious. Cortez also warned him about using the head earlier in the fight.

I counted at least 3 blatant intentional headbutts prior to the foul. Most boxers would have been complaining to the referee big time, which is why I am amazed more people don't give Mayweather credit for just "sucking it up and fighting." He did not complain a single time about the headbutting or the rabbit punches that gave him on a knot on the BACK of his head. Most fighters would, without question. Floyd just grinned, shook his head, and kept coming. Say what you want about him outside the ring, but he's pure class inside of it.

 

Honestly, when posters on here use the line "If you’ve not boxed before, you won’ understand", it makes me chuckle. It really does.

 

I was referring him to being hurt by the right hand that knocked him down. Yes it hurt him but I feel if he wanted to continue he could have got up (But at same time I didnt feel the punch so who knows)

And yes he tried to jump into him at least 2x's if not 3x's.

do you lot not think cortez was standing awfully close to the fighters when the fight was suppossedly back on?
and can you punch someone before the ref starts the timer? because the reason cortez turned away was because he was starting the timer, and in the same second floyd punched ortiz

Yeah, countless people have mentioned the headbutts, so I'm sure I'll spot them when I have the chance to review the fight once more. And the reason why Floyd didn't complain about those little headbutts and shots to the back of the head, is because Floyd indulges in plenty of infringements himself, and knows the score. He's notorious for blinding opponents with forearms before releasing the right, pushing belows into faces, push down on necks and uppercutting, etc.

 

If you've never taken punches before, you wouldn't understand. It's actually pretty accurate of a statement and you can tell who hasn't based on their comments.

The whole concept of "walking through" punches makes me chuckle actually. Not very sound boxing strategy to say the least. Garcia told Ortiz before the fight: "If he counters, you don't need to worry because he doesn't hit hard." Ridiculous advice.

 

Ortiz & Floyd jr look at the referee to see if his looking away because that's the cue to close the show... No need to block just accept the punch with open arms...

 

You seem like a cool guy (especially b/c of he avata,lol) but it seems like you just want to hear from posters who agree with you b/c you may not want to accept the fact that Ortiz was not on Floyd's level
