Now come on. I've heard this crap a lot and I cringe when people repeat it. If he ate 7,000 calories a day he would be fighting at heavyweight. I have heard often that his walking around weight is around 145 to 150. If he ate 7,000 calories a day he would need to burn those 7,000 to simply maintain his walking around weight for a fight. 7,000 calories is on professional bodybuilder caloric requirements and they tend to be a bit bigger. Do you know how hard it is to burn 7,000 calories in a day. Burning 1000 calories in an hour takes an intense amount of hardcore effort. Are you telling me Pacquiao puts in 7 of those hours, impossible. Truth of the matter is Roach and Ariza started running the 7-9k calorie myth to keep up the "manny is a little guy fighting giants" Truth is he probably eats fairly normally, but still watches to some degree what he eats so he doesn't come in too heavy.
The improvement of Pac's technical skills will going to be the biggest factor for this fight because unlike before which is a chess game the only strategy for Pac is to let all his pieces match JMM's until both would be left with only their king. The only down side of chess would be at the end of the game when the king remains at both side the defensive player wins even though it's a draw in a sense JMM will always looks dominating because of their style... Pac needs to counter this time while using his right so JMM can't back pedal on his left.
I actually questioned it myself before, but even if it's closer to 5,000 calories a day, that's still a lot. Plus Manny is one of the hardest workers in a sport that is already extra vigorous. Plus Ariza gives him a bunch of protein shakes throughout the day and even wakes him up in the morning to give him a protein shake and each one probably has around 1,000 calories
It's not the skill level. It's the style. In terms of style, Marquez will just never be able to cut it against a better counterpuncher. But against a boxer-puncher like Pacquiao, his style works to his advantage.
Thats probably more in line with the truth. I've just always thought throwing out the 7,000 number was more marketing than anything.
That, Michigan, is a fair comment. Because most have always believed Pacquiao to be the inferior fighter. He then gets more credit when he pits himself against fighters that are closer to his level (excluding the shameful Mosley fight). Floyd, for all his wonderful, God-given talents, doesn't do that. Pacquiao could be juicing on all the drugs in the world, and Floyd would still probably outclass him. It's just a shame that he [Floyd] doesn't share the same confidence.
Please. Pacquiao is elite. WHo has he fought on his level since moving up to welter? Cotto? No. Margarito? No. Clottey? No. Top Rank hype jobs.
you forgot the Clottey and marg bouts. clottey is a zab judah level fighter who always chokes at the big stage. marg was no longer elite when manny chose to fight him.
The problem is this criteria changes whenever Mayweather accomplishes that feat. So its hard to keep up with whats legit anymore . When he fights DLH and Mosley experience, skill, style, world-class credentials don't mean **** and young up and coming fighters do. When he fights a young up and coming fighter then experience, skill, style, and proven world-class credentials all of a sudden are the key. Back to the topic. Pac was able to time Cotto's jab real well and counter which was impressive, but that was when Cotto was going forward. When Cotto got on the bike a little his jab was landing way better. Marquez will always have to enter Pac's punches range though in order to get off if he had some more reach to stay out of Pac's punching range then he may have won both fights. Marquez should look to stay light at a weight he feels comfortable and focus on his ability to move, counter and throw combos.
He is elite. But Mayweather is still better than him. And I'm not saying Manny has been fighting guys that are on the exact same level. I'm saying he's been fighting guys, outside of Mayweather, that are the closest to his level. Examine the 2009-2010 period, and name me one other fighter who would have put put up a better fight than Margarito or Cotto? I exclude Clottey, because he was just stay-busy opponent before Manny went of to do his politics 'ting. And even then, Clottey had held his own against the best 147 fighters, and wasn't that bad of an opponent. He was just made to look as useless as he was because of Manny's brilliance.
Ain't that the truth. I remember when we were all demanding Mayweather to fight Mosley, and when he did, he was criticized for fighting him too late . And noone paid attention to the fact that Mosley twice turned down requests from Mayweather back when he was a little younger.
