Does Chad Dawson have what it takes to beat Hopkins?

It wouldn't surprise me if he goes to his normal lazy fighting and let's BHop push him around to a decision, which would be a shame because I think he has the youth and skills to possibly beat Hopkins. Would be nice to see the younger fighter win and get a rematch against Pascal. A talented fighter like Chad should at least show more killer instinct and better finishing moves.

I think Chad just doesn't have the mentality to overcome Hopkins, although I do like to see him pull it off. This fight is intriguing but I hope to God it doesn't end up being another Calzaghe/Wright type of fight.

i want Chad to win, but like you say, he doesn't really have the mentality..

Hopefully he will open up like he did in the later rounds against Pascal..

I agree with the general thought, right tools, wrong mentality.

If you're made of paper mache mentally, then Hopkins is the last guy you should be facing.

for me, chad dawson is fighting against himself as much as he is hopkins.
he has the skills and ability to win this by a mile, but, and it is a but, he needs to believe in himself, not let hopkins bully or intimidate him, and let his hands go.
he needs to be "bad" chad again, rather than just look bad chad.

Regardless of the prevailing and "popular" opinion about Chad lately, he has lost only one fight in his professional career, on a technical decision, at that.

I'm giving Chad the benefit of the doubt in this one.

When he decided to beat the **** out of Pascal, he did just that. Too bad he didn't do it often.

Dawson has the skills and physical tools to beat Hopkins convincingly. Question is, come fight night... will he?

i think he is quick enough and throws fast enough combinations to trouble him

he also unlike pavlik or pascal or calzaghe is very safety first he doesnt risk much and wont be there to be hit or wide open

i could see this style frustrate hopkins and force hopkins to be the aggressor like he was vs pascal in both fights

but dawson wont gas like pascal did in both fights

i think its close but i think dawson can do it

but if he turns in the kinda fight he did vs pascal he will lose

yeah he had him in serious danger in the 11th but waited way too long to get going

but if he does this he can seriously trouble the declined hopkins

sadly like many foes they will play into hopkins hands and be cautious and nervous rather than push the old man

pascal was killing him early in both fights and switched off

    No, I don't think so.

Hasn't he messed up with Steward as well? Something about not wanting to train outside a certain area or something?

Bernard is just in the zone right now and Dawson won't be the one who will take advantage.

Paschal "switched off" because he has not stamina.

and dawson does and that makes it interesting

but i dont know if dawson can push hopkins like pascal did

pascal definitely hits harder and is the more aggressive of the two
