Castro was the toughest middleweight in the world, Hopkins had the most consistent lead right in the game, Malinga had the longest jab in the super-middleweights - all future world champions. Thornton was a class above Byron Mitchell or Sharmba Mitchell, and Sosa the most awkward fighter in the world. These were incredibly tough guys. Toney another tough guy and the most slippery fighter out there. McCallum the most experienced world championship fighter in boxing. Griffin very cute and very, very tricky. Hill still had the best jab in American boxing, and Reggie Johnson was still one of the most technical southpaws in America.

He also had great performances in stopping Tate and Wolfe with two of the most incredible hooks (head and body), guys who went the distance with Julian Jackson and James Toney.

It's close, that's for sure.

 

You've summed up better than me why Roy has the better resume. On Hopkins; not quite at his most wiley, no, but didn't lose again until his penultimate fight at 160. Has never lost as conclusively, and Roy had one hand (the same excuse given for Floyds lacklustre display about Castillo first time round)

As I said previously, depends on whether you lose respect a fighter for carrying on past his best. I tend to lean towards giving a fighter respect for what they achieved. In terms of longeity, he was the best in the game for nearly a decade. Slipping after this hurts his all time standing, but doesn't make his best wins lesser than Floyds, and doesn't detract from how good he was before.

Not all fighters get out when they've got enough money.

It's easy to forget that, by the time of his first conclusive defeat, Roy was essentially on a 50 fight undefeated streak. Take that as you will when rating his credentials.
